I rent two safe deposit boxes. I have no idea what a safety deposit box is supposed to be.

I was offered $7500 this morning after posting the photo. I'm still having such a hard time valuing this coin. I sent it to be graded because of the proof like fields. The LCS usually satisfies all the invoices and I pay him. I had no idea about this VAM stuff. Its interesting, but not for me to fully enjoy like others on here. I just see a 63 pl morgan. Should I accept the offer or just wait till I know more? I certainly dont want to sell it only to find out its worth more. And in no way am I being greedy, I just want to do the right thing. I will not give away anything that my grandfather collected. He would want me to get the most. Help VAM guys

I would guess the shop that sends them for me. The guy has been doing it for 30 years and knows everything about every coin.

You already know what I would do. Consign it to Heritage. I know you had a bad experience with them before but their coin guys are the best in the world and they will get max value for you. I stand by my $10,000+ valuation if the cards fall right. Heritage Auction, get it in one of their major quarterly auctions. At worst, you know somebody out there will be willing to bid at least $7,500. Given the way major Morgan VAM's have been trending at auction lately, and the uniqueness of this piece, it flat-out would not leave my hands for less than $10k unless I sent it to auction and things didn't work out. In the end, it's your coin... but at least don't sell it yet, let me get a CAC sticker on it for you. That should add a couple grand.

Quote: I was offered $7500 this morning after posting the photo Where was the photo posted such that you got an offer of $7500 so quickly? Did the offering party put any conditions on the offer, such as a limited time to accept the offer ? If it is a bona fide offer, you could get it confirmed or even eclipsed by posting the photo and particulars on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum at vamworld.com.

Quote:Who determined the VAM? PCGS probably noticed it and automatically attributed it. They're supposed to do that with the major VAM's in their registry set.

The difference between EDS and LDS is easily noticeable; the OP can easily confirm that it's an EDS. Frankly, if PCGS attributed it I don't trust the attribution.

Wow, Coinfacts says this is the only PL and the only 63 VAM-5 EDS ever graded.

Frankly, I'm surprised that a moderator here would make a statement that in essence could be characterized as bashing the most successful grading service ever. I know of no one more thorough in their job of verifying Morgan dollar variety attributions than PCGS' Mike Faraone. What Mike does not know well, he is free to admit, but he does know how to consult with long time recognized experts in VAMs, people such as Leroy VanAllen, Jeff Oxman and Logan McKechnie, among others.

One of my favorite pasttimes is CherryPicking misattributed VAMS in PCGS & NGC holders. Hence my user name. Still have not seen John Roberts screw one up.

I have seen many errors by all grading services, and with attributions as well. On this coin it looks like they got it right. I have an 1876 Baslow re-stike that PCGS graded and attributed as an 1876 re-strike that is in effect a 1960's era re-re-strike.This coin is graded MS-65. The guy that owns it bought it as an 1876 re-strike for 2900.00, just a little bit under sheet. The 1960's re-strike is worth about 100.00. PCGS views there mistake as a "Mechanical Error" and will not make the buyer whole for what he paid for this coin. He based his purchase on the "Slab" and what PCGS put on the holder. So we come back to "Buy the Coin not the plastic" By the Way John Roberts is never wrong and only once in awhile Mistaken!
