Great ident. CP... It IS a 117! I give it an XF45 and there are a couple of scratches that might "Details" it, but from the discussion on VAMWORLD, it's a tough one to find. PG

@7tf... "Centles" is an ebay seller who encases his coins in his own "Brand" of slab - "NNC". Those who know a thing or two about grading shake their collective heads in amazement. PG

Centsles is Bob Johnson, a former finalist in the PCGS World Series of Grading who chose the Dark Side. He's a basement slabber (NNC) and crackout artist who buys Details coins and sells them raw, represented as original. He's also (I think) the largest coin seller on ebay. Snagging a VAM-117 from him for $31 is a nice piece of justice.

Quote: It appears to have been cleaned. It is about a $50 coin. Serious? Cleaned and with major milling marks on Liberty's face. I think the OP is maxed out at $31, which is double melt and about right for a cull of a slightly better date Morgan.

@judd... Slightly better date - true. VAM117 You might want to check VAMWORLD about that particular VAM. I quote, in part: Quote: "...time has proven the 117 to be much more elusive and worth an even bigger premium."

I understand your desire to cite the Vamworld information. Unfortunately, it is a fair assumption that the declaration there does not apply to cleaned and damaged coins. I will cite a personal relevance to that end. Someone here asked me what they thought my cleaned and damaged 1876 II/II Trade dollar is worth, since it is listed as "extremely rare" in the RedBook, with no pricing provided. Without placing it back into the market,I cannot say with certainty what value it has, but I don't give myself the false expectation that it is worth anywhere near the value of an example that is not altered, even if one with similar detail exists.

Market value is not germane if one does not plan on re-introducing the coin into said market. I'd like to think of it as one less chance Mr. Centsles has to dilute the numisnatic gene pool.
