Out of curiosity what type PCI slab is it? Is it the older green label 10 digit serial number?

Quote: You better snag it before CousinCarl finds it lol. He has a set he's working on also. And true, I'd grab that one. If you look into it, your chances of finding a 45 with better middle bands is almost a joke. I too have been working on a FSB set. I only have 6 more to go. Oddly enough that 45 and even the 16D were not the hardest ones to get. Just wait until you try to find a 42D/41 with FSB's. That is one I just can't find. My 45 is about like yours and if you can grab that one for that price, grab it fast or I will. I could always start a second FSB set you know.

Beautiful set and glad you are here! Thanks for sharing your set with us, one of the most impressive designs in all U.S. coinage IMHO. Best Regards, George

I must have missed this thread when I was away from CCF for a few months - beautiful collection, you're doing really well! Good luck with that 1916-D FSB... of your 7070, too!

Thanks everyone! Yea sometimes I set my goals to a little bit of a unattainable level sometimes. But hey, this isn't going to be a 1 yr project. Like I said I just got back into it about 6 months ago after not doing anything for over a decade. (26 yrs old now). When I got started into collecting I remember I purchased my first gold krugerrand for under 400. Boy if only we all knew back then what we know now!
Anyway, the 7070 w/ gold page I just got into about a month ago. Just have all the common coins in Mint state. Trying to fill a lot of the gold up now.As long as the coins show a lot of detail that is what I'm after. Having a mint state 7070 is almost as crazy as a full band dime set. Oh well..ill knock one off at a time!

The 45 looks full split bands to me. which is very rare and worth much more than $ 1200 If it's a Mint state coin. Tony

Two terms are commonly used with top condition Mercurys: "FB" (Full bands) and "FSB" (Fully Split bands).
In my opinion "FB" is a much better term, because it implies that the bands are fully struck up and completely unworn. The bands will have a rounded top to them, much like the crust top of the old style of a loaf of bread.
The implication of "FSB" is that the bands are fully split; that implies that as long as they are fully split, that is OK. Such split bands can still have some wear on the top of the bands allowing a flat top to them, or they are not completely struck up, thus resulting a flat top to the bands.
I have both "FB's" and "FSB's" in my collection, the "FSB's" with and without any wear.

Yes,the two used to be more prominent I heard and slowly over the years they both kind have merged. My album consists of dimes were all 3 bands are fully split by the lines and nicely struck. They MAY NOT be fully rounded perfect strikes, but what I am after is rater unattainable is such perfect strikes. Especially since I am not rich and have other bills I have to pay first =( As long as the band lines are uninterrupted all the way across, then that works for me.

I love seeing these coins cracked out their plastic tomb like this! That's the way it is supposed to be! I wonder if the TPG's will ever offer a collector a grade certificate and put it in an envelope like ANA did in the beginning? Tell us what date(s), that isn't obvious, you are especially finding that was weakly struck/ minted and hard to find like this?

I think I remembered reading on PCGS that as long as they are split they will give them the split band stamp, and that some people only accept the "mcdonalds arches" FB, and that is ok, but a higher range on their rating scale.
