Just one set is enough. When I find a better coin to upgrade any of my sets I sell or trade the other one.

I'm still working on one set and a long way off from most. However, I do intend to collect multiples of certain key coins, but probably not of full sets.

Really, though, like I said in the Gold Kennedy half thread, I think some people worry too much about how others define collecting. It's an individual sport, so however you like to do it is the right way, even if that means rubbing silver polish on all your coins to make them shiny. Well, no, I guess that's always wrong....

On every set that I am collectingI have a raw set and a graded set going. That way I don't have to crack out coins from the big two for my raw set and I can keep really nie coins raw for my ungraded sets.

As I upgrade coins in the set the lower grade coins go into a separate folder.

I voted just one set because anything that doesn't make it into one of my sets goes into the "Spares" Albums

Usually my multiples are from not cataloguing my coins properly and then buying the coin again. Or if I'm upgrading a coin there will turn out to be a second set and sometimes a small third set. Because I'm collecting Canadian year sets (one coin at a time) I constantly have to bring the coin home and compare it with the rest of the set because I like them all looking the same (if one is toned they must all be toned, if one is MS65 they must all be MS65 or close). Then they get sealed into those Aurora/Whitman slabs and one day they will get proper display cases once I get a bigger domicile.

I'm Justcarl and I collect 700 sets of Mercury dimes (just kidding - and I hope I remembered right )

Slight exaggeration though. I do have a tendency to make multiple Albums, only 12 Mercury dimes but planning on more. Only 10 Lincoln Cents, and usually about 5 of everything else.
So far only one Large Cent Album though.
Rest in Peace

You're an inspiration to us all Justcarl. And you let me tell myself with my 6 IHC sets "No, I'm not compulsive, just look at Justcarl!"

And hey, congrats on the Bedrock thing! I missed seeing when they started that, but I suggested something like that be done a year or so ago ( though I called it Community Elder), but you deserve the accolade.

When I can afford it, I collect both a business strike version and a BU and proof version. The proof version is always BU for all coins.
When I can't I don't. Also, with modern coins, such as Ike's, I don't bother collecting a business strike only-- I just go with the combo business/proof.
Example:
Roosevelt- I collect a circulated version and I collect a BU/Proof version both. So I have 2.
Walking Liberty Half- I can afford a circulated business version, but could never complete a BU version. So just 1.
ATB-- just proof/bu and only 1...
My big exception is Washington quarters. I love them from 32-98. I have 3 versions going on now for full set and probably going to have a couple of 65-98 only versions BU going on soon.

I do one business strike set of each that I collect. I don't go out of my way to do proofs, but will keep the ones I find in circulation.

Although now that I'm finished with my one set of Ike dollars, I have thought about starting a second.

Why yes I do. I am doing a 7070 and I decided to do 20th century type sets for both my boys this allowed me to upgrade a coin in my 7070 and then pass it down to there set (recently I just upgraded my AU58 Mercury dime for a ms63 version and passed it down to my little boys set). I was also thinking of doing a 20th century type set for me as I have had fun doing there sets and then a 20th and 21st century type set for me. This would give me 5 different US type sets.
