I personally would have included the 1970D. I consider it to be circulating, since it was a currently circulating design, even though it was not issed as such.

Sounds like a cool album. I may have included the 70D, but then do you included the 76S & the 2014D? I like the idea of only including what was meant to circulate.

I, however, am in a little different boat, since I'm doing a set of business strike Kennedy halves, 1964-present (only 21 coins left to go). I include the 76S but not the 2014D silver. Mostly because I had bought the silver Bicentennial unc set for the Ike dollar and needed something worthwhile to do with the Half. And I still don't know what to do with that pesky quarter. |

If you include the 1970D you might as well add the 1976 40% silver half as well.

I do have a couple of 1970-D's in the mint sets and I think I will leave them in it, especially with reading the comments. This project was truly where I wanted coins that have done the work for which they were intended. My 1921-D for instance is an AG, but has the nice aged silver patina to it.
I have to admit the dansco with all of the Barbers in it is quite a sight.
I put an extra page in the Franklin dansco for the 1964-1969 Kennedys. The extra holes in the albums I am now going to fill with nice patina circulated seated liberties. There won't be an 1878-S, that is for certain...lol. Thanks for all the comments so far, folks :)
Hcmusicguy, are you including the 1998 matte finish? Just curious.

Sounds like an impressive set. Plus you can enjoy them with the Dansco album.
If you have the room, I'd include the 1970D & 1976S. They are the last silver Kennedy's till 1992.

My opinion is only include coins meant to circulate -- released into circulation. Otherwise you will have many silver half dollar commemoratives to include.

Put more thought into it today and I have included the 1970-D and 1976-S business strike uncirculated coins. That is where it will end. 1992 and later are classified as proofs or specialty mintages and will not be included. I already had an orphaned 1976-S lying around and an orphaned 1970-D from my LCS was only $12.

Note: I also consulted my 2015 RedBook. It lists the 1970-D and the 1976-S uncirculateds in the business strike categories. The 1976-S silver clad is the last silver Kennedy in that category. If there is a 2014 silver in the business strike category I will add it as well. Update: Make that 1891-1976 silver business strikes. My LCS had a really nice 1891 seated in VG. That may have been a mistake adding the 1891 to the album because now that you have one Liberty Seated half you will eventually want more as one is never enough. That is where you can get in way too deep. A complete date/mint set of Liberty Seated halves gets very, very expensive real quick and even just a year set is not cheap as this series lasted 65 years and starts off with an expensive one year type in 1839. |

I'm just gonna putz around in the seated lib half realm, gyrene. Too many expensive ones and I have caught Bust half fever...lol. You know you have bust half fever bad when you are keeping track of them by Leaman-Gunnet emission order.  I am working on the Overtons for CBH era and date wise only lack 1815. All are slabbed NCG or PCGS, none are in genuine holders and many are CAC coins. Date range for that set is 1805-1836. I think I could be called a half dollar nut by now...lol. I know I am playing with fire by including seated liberties, but what the heck. What I am going to do with the seated liberties is fill the extra holes in my 3 dansco albums, the Barber, Walker and Franklin-Kennedy. Original surface seated liberties, each of a different date. So far, 1891, 1876-CC, 1866 and 1843-O. Edited by DoubleEagle20

Yes you are correct. Unfortunately some people open coin sets and spend them so occasionally you receive a silver proof in circulation.
