Those are in the same category as Jefferson nickels. People just really are getting tired of dead people on the coins. Or at least change more often. Contrary to that I've met people that collect only Lincoln Cents and Roosevelt dimes. One person I know only collects Roosevelt dimes. And that is the hobby of coin collecting.

GR58 that really, really looks fantastic. Of course being a Whitman fan I think they would look much better in a Blue background. That is amazing how those look. Couldn't be better looking. Just great.

Well, now I'm pumped to check out my rosevelt album(s). I know one is full or almost with a few rainbows :) Thanks for the bump SA!

I got a pretty good deal the other day. I know normally circulated roosevelts aren't worth much but for $134 total I was able to get a full circulated roll of 49-S and a full circulated roll of 50-S. You really don't see those up for sale too often and at $67 a roll (slightly over melt) I thought I did pretty good for a key date and semi-key date roll!

I read an article the other day where someone was speculating that 1969-P may become the key date for clad dimes. With a mintage of 145,790,000 and not that many hoarded they speculated these might be valuable eventually (especially with full bands).

I think most of the clads are tougher than the silver issues in Unc. The '69-P is especially tough because not only were so few saved but most examples look like junk. Nice attractive coins are not often seen.

I've assembled almost the entire (except for five) 1946-64 silver set, strictly through roll hunting the last couple years, and several more partial sets. I know of other crh'ers that have completed the series via roll hunting.

I try to buy every unc/bu set of Roosevelt, Jefferson, and Ikes that come into my local dealers. I think buying them completed is much more cost effective.

Not to mention, many of these sets were assembled by collectors who cherry-picked and built really nice sets which their kids or spouses then sell without appreciating the work that went into the set.

They don't come in very often. Especially the Ikes.

I was able to pick up some additional rolls of 49-S, 50-S, and 51-S for right around melt. I understand they are circulated, not BU , but I will welcome them to my collection for melt prices!

As always, outstanding album and pictures, G58. Gives us all something to shoot for!

I have my Roosies in a Whitman Classic and I haven't worked particularly hard on the pre-65 issues. Most of those dates I've just filled in from my junk pile. It's generally (I've found) very easy to find good examples of everything '65+ from circulation (except of course the West Point coin).

Neglected coins today may be hot in a few years. Anything that is silver and has stopped being minted should increase in value. You notice you don't see Franklin half dollars in circulation and they are the red headed stepchild of half dollars. I know they minted millions of them but where are they now? They are being horded for the day.

Just an observation...
I put more love and consideration into my average circulated Mercury
dime set that I am putting together! LoL

I am putting that set into an old "period correct" coin folder (as opposed to an album).

I'm as guilty as you. I own many more Flying Liberty dimes (Mercs) than silver Roosevelts. Love my Mercuries and barely pay attention to the 1946-present set.

Two reasons. I love the more complex design of the Merc.

and

When I began my dime collection in 1959 Roosies were common but Mercs going out of circulation and were special to find, especially from before 1930. I would go to the bank near my school at lunch time with a five dollar bill and about fifty cents in change and buy and roll, search it, and return it to the teller and get another one. When lunch hour was over, or I ran out of spare change, I'd go back to school.

I already had a Lincoln Cent collection in those days, but most of it was given to me by my grandfather. I love cents, but really love Mercury dimes because that collection was mine. I finished it except the 16D and the 42/1. I later inherited my grandfather's collection which includes a 16D, but still no 42/1 which did not have a spot in the folder he used.

I came across a silver hoard last year and kept out some of the better Roosevelts before selling most of it off. It was missing the 49S and all three 1955's. But I suppose I'll acquire those and complete the set for my grandkid.

Agreed. Look at what the Statehood Quarters did to the Washington quarter series as a whole.

BigAppleBucky - Sounds like you have a very nice merc collection! I think I'd prefer them too if I had been around when they were in circulation. Try shopping for a roll of BU mercs today, IMO way too expensive! The more rare dates in even "AG" condition are high! You can pick up BU rolls of the 55-P/D/S you're missing for $85-90 each or less if you keep your eyes open for a deal. Depending on the condition you seek on the 49-s it shouldn't be too expensive either.

I enjoy Roosevelts because they are still pretty affordable in BU. You can even buy key and semi-key dates circulated for barely over melt. I don't know that Roosevelts will ever be as valuable as mercs, but I think they will go up in value quite a bit someday (for BU and key dates).
