Amazon throws things in completely ignoring what you searched... that they *hope* you'll like.

I know that, it's when you save it as a search that it loses all the refinements....

You don't need to save it as a search, just bookmark it with your browser. (although I just saved bobby's search above using ebay's follow option and it kept all the refinements for me ).

If you create one on ebay using their filter settings, that's what doesn't keep. They have check boxes for certification company for example.

Don't ever use those. You'll get more results my way (and it works better) because a lot of sellers don't check off those boxes when they list.

Push vs. Pull however... saved searched (and notifications) are a 'feature' of ebay, which suck. Hence my original reply to the OP.

I am clearly NOT that computer savy.. and have never used the saved searches function on ebay... but I want to thank you all for the information and input in this thread... I found the read facinating and look forward to learning more now.

It sounds like you are not using the refinements and the auto filters. When you get a search you drill down into a category and then you pick a couple of years and then several certification services and you get it just right? And I click on save this search and email me results. And I get an email with every single Three Cent Silver newly listed in the entire category... Definitely I can use the CCF ebay search with it's longer length. And definitely some sellers do and others don't use the parts of the listing tool that the filters check for. So I really need to do both. Problem with that is I end up with different CCF searches bookmarked on the 5 machines... [1st world problem, I know] I think there's a clue in the mobile app which will sometimes tell me I was selected to many expensive filters. but instead of telling me that on the website when I try to save the search [I'm sorry Dave I can't do that] it just saves a defective search and emails me those 'results'.

For the record I find ebay's mobile site and "app" unusable. I use the Desktop site even on my phone.

Same here on the mobile app. I only use it to respond to messages and offers when I'm away from home pretty much.
