What we can't do is hold, the coin in hand and vary the angle of it to incident light, looking for radial mint lustre. Lustre looks OK on the obverse, but cannot see lustre around the lettering in the centre of the coin, on the reverse. Nevertheless, I do not think that anybody would want to whizz such a selectively small part of the coin, on one side only.

I don't know what they are looking at. The toning looks original. I have never seen a whizzed coin where the entire surface was not affected. A partially whizzed coin would show a stark contrast between the whizzed and non-whizzed areas, like a wheel mark.

Although the picture doesn't show the classic whizzed features, it does show me some signs of surface tampering.
One thing to mention about ICCS.
True, they sometimes neglect to mention when a coin has been overly dipped or cleaned, BUT, when they do mention (or refuse to grade) a coin that has been tampered with (or in this case, whizzed) they are ALWAYS right.
Based on the info the OP supplied, I would be 100% confident this coin has been played with in some way, shape or form.

The coin does have something going on but I have never seen a whizzed coin so I have nothing to compare it with. As to the 2nd G of GEORGIVS, good eye. I never noticed anything until you pointed it out but on examination there is a distinct bump inside the 2nd G.

I don't know, hard to tell from the picture. The fields sure don't look whizzed. Here is a whizzed copper coin.

Thanks for the picture CoinHunter, the surfaces of my coin don't have the pebbled appearance that I see in your coin.

Can anyone give their opinions as to the grade of the coin?

It was probably an MS or very high AU grade before the whizzing.
Now, it's probably worth VF to EF money.

Your copper looks more acid etched rather than whizzed

PC, This coin was deemed whizzed by ICCS long ago. I just kept it as a reference piece. I'm guessing it was underground and the whizzed.

weight? I think that they missed on that one. Once had a 1696 GB farthing I sent to them and they said questionable authenticity then sent to NGC came back as EF 45.THat pebbly look is not usually seen on a classically whizzed coin. Gosh I miss my rock tumbler and wire wheel along with the smell of brasso and silvo !!!! . Thank goodness for the most part whizzing guys have all died.

Have to agree with Pacificoin on this one. That pebbly appearance is not indicative of a "whizzed" coin. This picture is of a whizzed coin showing the fine hairlines that occur.

PC 5.62 Gr. It's not acid. As mentioned, I think this coin spent time in the ground and then manipulated. The Morgan looks more harshly cleaned than whizzed. High speed whizzing methods would use a smaller and much finer brush at faster speeds. Hairlines will often not be visible. One sided effigy or letter distortion would.

I think it was just a plain wrong coin mistake---or a wrong insert mistake. Send it back-----grade it a MS62---no wear---no whizz.
