Right but, how many are out there and/or on the market not to mention at this level, your dealing with a collector/investor with the pockets to put together an MS set more than likely.

If I can see LIBERTY, I'm happy

Wonder what Rick paid for it

Same here. It wouldn't look right in my Whitman folder along with all my roll finds as a kid.
Exactly. My 1877 needs to have some honest wear and tear.

I have found this pc is with doubled die obverse, "United..."? Does this affect the coin's value?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the doubling you're seeing is Machine Doubling since it surrounds the letters on both sides.

I believe it is just a form Die Deterioration, fairly common on the series.

I'm fine with a 1909 that is in the same grade and looks the same. Just for my type set.

The one currently in my album is an AG with some pitting. I happen to like this coin very much because it has a bold date

I have a VG but it's surrounded by PCGS plastic

Makes you wonder if this will ever sell at this price point.

I think Rare Coin Wholesalers had a PCGS 66RD that was going for stupid money.

I pay more for photo sealed coins (to a limit of course). I do agree that this coin is a bit overpriced, but Rick is usually more conservative than the graders and CAC. Of the many raw coins I have bought from him, my experience is that they have graded two or three grades higher than what he assigns. His raw coins are usually a pretty good deal.

I understand this coin is more of a investment grade.
I like to think that even investors do not like to over pay.

But then a look at numismedia's prices does show why this coin might be listed this high.

I was thinking that 15K might be closer to what this coin
could sell for.

But .. that is just my opinion .. I never buy coins like this for my collection ... well out of my price range ..
But I have helped sell coins that are in this range.

A coins true FMV is real auction results.
