I do wonder if there is some way to remove the plating.
Would be better to have a cleaned coin .. in a holder ..

Yup, RR29. Fantastic coin and I am quite jealous because Vermont Coppers are my specialty.
Man, I didn't think they'd bag it!
Try PCGS as stated. This needs to be attributed in plastic (I know some will disagree).
This is a pretty important coin.

Do you think you would try to remove the plating?
Would having the coin tested in a IR x-ray machine
tell me anything?

RR-29? That is an important, scarce coin. To be appreciated whatever its condition.
The advice to send it to PCGS is sound - However, does PCGS still accept colonials? I read somewhere that they no longer do so.

On second thought. PCGS will grade them but I'm not sure they do attributions, I don't recall ever seeing one. Which leaves ANACS.

Of course if they attribute it you still can't trust the attribution. And with NGC if they had attributed it you not only couldn't trust it, if they got it wrong, too bad you're out of luck because they don't guarantee their attributions Edited by Conder101

I have had this coin soaking in acetone, since I got it back from NGC. I think I see some improvement. Got me wondering if I should soak it some more in acetone. I have to watch myself, and try something more harsh. Also I was reading ANACS site, they say they will slab problem coins. Hate to bring this back up, but I am curious if others can see a improvement.   |

problem coins. They certainly do! Most of the coins I send them seem to come back slabbed but with with no grade other than "scratched', "bent", etc. Of course, I didn't realize the coins were problem coins before sending them in... |
