@HuguesGervais well my friend whether AT or NT they are some very fine looking coins you have assembled and I commend you on your efforts to put that selection together, personally I'd put anyone of them in my collection.

I've don't understood why toning, AT or otherwise, is a concern - yet dipped coins are considered totally acceptable.

I prefer the colourful hues of beautifully toned silver over artificial blast white any day.

this video may be even more dramatic to some, the removal of patina using an electrochemical process

@zxcccxz

Since couple of years, I mostly buy PCGS graded coins because they are better to NOT grade AT coins contrary to ICCS who doesn't really care.
Most of my coins cross-graded from ICCS to PCGS and the ones that didn't because of AT, I sold them. I keep only 4 in ICCS holder that PCGS said "questionable tones".

And the reason I only sell Toned coins is because I only buy toned coins. Very simple explanation. And again, I never toned, dip or alter coins.

Below are my collection (not for sale) PCGS showcase:

I did not see the original coin that started this thread, in your PCGS showcase set (the 1945 50c). Did it get 'Questionable colour' by PCGS?

@SPP-Ottawa

I sold it during my one and only Auction on iCollector:
https://www.icollector.com/1945-50-...65_i25827589

I estimate that less than 10% of the coins from my personal collection didn't cross with PCGS and I keep these 4 that even PCGS said they are questionable toned, I still find them amazing. See photos.

@SPP-Ottawa

And I forgot to answer your question:
I don't think I tried to cross-graded it.

At that time, to growth my collection I had to sell some to make a profit so I can buy more. Today, I would not sell that coin and keep it.

dificult question but what I get is that even the experts dont know if its toned and may assign questionable status. is it thus better to not send in toned coins for professional grading? or send them in but if you get questionable status, crack it open and sell as is?

@MrSurfaces

Lower value coins are listed on my ebay store HuguesGervais and more expensive were listed on TCNC recent auction.

@recollector

Always worth trying to have the coin graded by PCGS as it increase its value and if it come back questionable then yes, you can sell it as is.
ICCS for some reason doesn't validate the toning which mean they will put in their holder no matter what. That's another way to sell a coin that PCGS didn't grade. PCGS are not perfect but they are often right (>95%). When sent to PCGS you can select "not hold" if not graded so these coins will come back in a slip instead of hard plastic that are difficult to cut.
