Maybe take a gamble and send it to ANACS or a TPG?

I found one similar CRHing several weeks ago. I'm half tempted to submit it to ANACS.

2.97 grams makes sense because of all the wear on it!

I'd say that... Well, it certainly looks like a 1914 D! I'd submit it to ANACS, but who knows what they will say. I'd give it a 60%-70% of coming back authentic

They will mark it what it really is. They might call/email you to find out if you sent a completely wrong coin, but if you put a "D?" in the MM section, they should be able to figure it out.

Might or might not be worth sending it in for authentication. If it is a 14D, in that shape still worth a little bit more than the cost of having a TPGS look at it. If not, just a waste of some money but nothing really to bad.

You could always wait until ANACS has a free grading special, and send it in with another coin. That way you'd only be paying for postage. They haven't had one in a while, so there should be one coming up.

I'd submit it. If it comes back an "S", and a details grade i'd buy it off you if you dont want it.
Hopefully it comes back a D! By the way, ANACS is the cheapest/best for authentication... In case you didn't know that

Will overlays work here to differentiate MM locations?
