Nickel reverse hubbed on to dime sized die and used in minting process?  Most likely some sort of PSD, but what? |

There is no plating on a nickel.

SilverStackerKid. You might be on to something about the dime. The inner edge just outside the nickel lettering all around the rim looks to be reeded like the rim of a Roosevelt dime. If so though, HOW could that have occurred ? It IS a COOL looking coin whatever the anommoly is. |

I was exgaturating about the dime die. It would be VERY extremely hard for that to happen. The reeding is also caused by the collar the coin is struck in. It is cool looking at weird coins.

With the new photo it looks like a circular scratch, not unlike those by coin rolling machines.

I think the scratch looks too deep for roller damage. Another possibility I would like to throw out there is that it may be a Magician's coin of some sort, with the reverse drilled out and replaced by that of a different coin. However, that seems unlikely as it would be kind of pointless and stupid for someone to go to all that trouble just to put it back how it was (sort of). |

Looks altered to me. Have you tried a drop on a table to compare it with another nickel to see if they sound the same? (drop about 6 inches to see what the coin sounds like. this will tell you if something was added/removed to the coin) Weight would also be helpful.

Two tailed coin?
Obverse and Reverse rotated from normal alignment?
Correct obverse and reverse for this year?
(just trying to figure out why the coin was altered)
