My local banks have all stopped accepting deposits in their vaults citing the risk of terrorism, the possibility that someone will place a bomb in a box and deposit it, then detonate it (presumably at a later time).

Do US banks have a way of detecting suspect deposits or do they just accept or ignore the risk ?

Wow. I haven't heard anything about such a policy. It may be that some US banks are like that, but I hope it doesn't become well known because somebody would eventually try it. I cringe when I hear things on TV like details of how attacks in the past have taken place. The news channels are serving as intel to ISIL and our home grown nut jobs and jihadists, giving them ideas of how they could have done things better. Or even coming up with new ways to do things, like what we're talking about.

So let's talk coins before the conversation turns political.

Interesting question. As Biedercoins pointed out this is fodder for terrorism.
Sorry, plonker for interrupting your post.

I need to work on removing the white background from the pictures and it takes time.

Do you use Photoshop? There's a slick circular masking tool or one of the "magic" smart selection commands that came out of CS6. I don't subscribe to Adobe's Creative Cloud (CC) so it's probably even easier by now. In fact, I'm betting that coop has a tutorial already for posting or instruction in the General Discussion section.

Just an idea.

I hope these coins were not deposited. I am sure they are in a bank safe deposit box.

Great idea, I sure miss seeing my box contents.

Collections are generally safer at the bank than at home, even though the bank's box contents are not federally insured against tampering, fire, flood etc. My insurance co. will not cover safe deposit box contents.

Never even think about what is in my safe deposit boxes. I have enough Albums here in my house to keep me occupied. Not even sure what is there.

I had to change boxes recently I was surprised by what I had forgotten I had. I have a box in another country and will be visiting it early next year...I am wondering what I will find. I read with amusement the fear a terrorist would attack a bank vault. I really doubt its the sort of target a terrorist would go for. I suspect the bank that gave that argument is just finding its vault is not paying and want to get out of the business. Terrorism is often used as an excuse to cover up business decisions these days.

Well, some may see it as 'the fox guarding the henhouse'.

IN America that could well be the case. Here in Austria(Has banking privacy laws, that in some ways are stricter than those that the Swiss had.) that doesn't apply. No matter how valuable my collection is Its better in a bank vault than at home. As for terrorists blowing it up; loosing my collection is better than loosing my life
