Notice how every coin obv. and rev. are the same dullish grey color. RED FLAG ! I'm leaning toward overly dipped. all were done in the same manner.

The coins look dipped to me.
Notice that there is NO differential toning in the protected areas around the devices.

I'd even go so far as to think they might have seen a bit of buffing on the wheel, too. As has been mentioned, those all look exactly the same as far as surfaces are concerned, and the chances of that happening naturally are about zero.

I worked for the Gates Rubber Co. for several years and my step-dad retired from Gates after 33 years there. When I saw one of these sets for sale on ebay about 7 years ago I bought it. The sets were put together with cleaned/polished coins but it was a neat item. The "frame" is actually a piece of cardboard though!

Pretty cool bh1964. What year do you think they handed those out? That would sure make my day as an employee, even if they were cleaned. One of the higher ups must have been a collector and wanted to get rid of his low grade coins! :)

I imagine they were given away in the 1960's or '70's. Gates was a billion dollar privately held corporation headquartered in Denver, Co.

The title itself would run me off. "Sealed to the card", indicates these are glued or fixed somehow. I woukd run far and fasr from this one. YMMV

My hunch is that these were cleaned THEN framed in what they are now. Probably were sold in magazines or something along the lines of that. It appeals to people who aren't numismatists. They think cleaned coins are better, and look a lot "better" then they would look, not cleaned.

They appear to have been cleaned or polished,i enlarged the pics and on some of the design I could see dark tarnish in the corner of the leaves but just my opinion some times it is hard to tell with pictures.
