Either the 1893-S in G4-6 or an MS66DMPL or a proof Morgan.

Well my '21 needs a companion besides my Peace dollar so I'd definitely get an 1899 proof like Zurie.

I would get a 1878 8TF MS65 PL. The MS65 is top pop in PL condition for the 8TF, and in the last 20 years there have only two of them that have came up for auction. This coin is affordable, beautiful, and conditional rare.

What do you guys think is the best valued CC or Proof in that price range? Someday I'd like to get a nice Morgan but I have to save up a lot more so it will be a while. I don't have any slabbed Morgan's and the whole set is way too tough to complete.

I have one nice Proof for the type and two sets in Capital Plastics holders. One set is covers the 1878 varieties. The other is one coin from each mint. Here is the Proof. The prices have come down, but you won't get one this nice for $2,000.

Amazing coin billjones, thanks for sharing. What grade did that get? Talk about a nice example! :)

NGC graded it Proof 64. I think that it should have gotten a "cameo" designation, but it does not have one.

I'm very happy with this one (although it cost closer to $3000): It's "only" graded PR63 by PCGS, but that's fine with me. Had it been graded any higher, I couldn't have purchased it.

I'm not real picky about the date but it would have to be a San Fran mint and the best grade that money could buy me.

Easy choice for me because I already own it. Paid $1325 last year. 1878-CC Morgan $1, PCGS MS63 DMPL VAM-2A R5 EDS(doubled LIBERTY, Chips in CC, die chip on nose) Images by Messydesk & BluCC

Any proof (except for 1894, 1895, and probably 1878 and 1901). Most of these were only minted in the hundreds, and with around the same number of Morgans offered on ebay, is a fraction of the price for a much more beautiful coin. Proofs across the board are mostly undervalued and highly recommended (except for the the mass-produced moderns.)

I would get the 1893-S in Good condition. That coin is just magic in any condition. Billjones is your 1883 toned or is that just an artifact of the photo process. That Morgan is so nice it looks 3-D. What is it about Morgans that make them so desirable? I think they are more collected than Saint-Gaudens gold coins and I think the St. Gaudens $20 is the most beautiful American coin. I have a 1884 CC GSA coin. It is nowhere near your 1883 and makes mine look like pocket change. Are there major differences in Proof Morgans? I have some but have not really focused on them due to the expense.

Cheapest proofs currently on ebay start at $1.6k for ANACS PR61. Going up to a 62 raises the bar to $2.5k, 63 for $2.7k...64 for $3.7k, 65 for $9.3k Not affordable for me unless I sold a ton of coins :( Pretty much everyone loves the big Morgans. It's a combination of beauty, variety, availability, and price. They're also some of the easiest coins to sell when you need to free up some cash flow to make other purchases.
