I am at work...but I will look for the milk spots when I get home. Are the milk spots a good/bad thing? They didn't stand out if they are on there but I will double check those years.

1996 is kind of a keydate...low mintage... also represents the 10 year anniversary. typically the 1996 coin can range from 55-70 bucks....
i would say overall you got an average deal...although the albums alone are probably worth a good bit. enjoy your set.

Right now as I'm typing this, silver is at $17.82/oz according to Kitco.

If silver is at 17.82 then I did not do too bad paying on average 20.87 a coin. I didn't buy it for the price of silver...I bought it for the love of the set of coins. On the otherhand, I did want to make sure I didn't get ripped off. I ususally don't make purchases this big for coins so I was a little nervous.

Great deal. Right now silver is $17.92.  http://www.coincommunity.com/spot_p...als_spot.asp It changes pretty much every time you refresh.  A Dansco is great for storing coins. Must be pretty heavy when it's full of silver. I'm still working towards my full set of Silver Eagles. |

Sounds like you got a really nice deal there. You must realize that Dansco Albums are at least $25 themselves. Not sure how many it took to make that set but are you sure they are all MS or BU? If so, good deal. Now for the long run. If you are planning on keeping them for a very long time, I would suggest placing the albums in a zip lock bag and pressing out as much air as possible. Naturally this depends on the area you live. If for example in very dry location such as Arizona, might not be necessary. If on the other hand a place like St. Louis or Chicago with excssive humidity in the are, the zip lock type bag would be very benificial. Remember albums such as Danco,
Whitman, Littleton, Shield, etc are not air tight.

just carl...Thanks for that info. I want to keep the set for a long time and I want to keep it going from year to year. What size zip lock bag would I need? I live in NC so humidity is a factor I may have to deal with.
Also, what is milk spots on the 96 and 97 that amac44 was referring to? I don't think mine have this.

I love the silver eagles and now that I have a full set, I'm targeting a full set of rolls (will take a while).
One of the dealers I work with told me about the milk spots and this is what he told me; the mint workers were using city water to clean the dies and the city changed their water processing in 1996 that either added or allowed some chemical through that had previously not been there (sorry, my memory on this is not what it could be). This chemical was then getting on the dies and causing the milk spots on the coins, especially on the obverse fields.
Take that as you will, as it is certainly third hand knowledge. But the milk spots are considered to be a negative.

I have 8 eagles now and I love them, not a bad investment for 20-25 dollars a year either. I've been paying 20 a piece for them, except for 96 of course. Now my dealer is charging 25 each as of a few days ago.. I can see myself walking in there and finishing my set real soon before they go up again lol . I think you got a pretty good deal on that set.  |

silver at closed 18.03 today...i love it! i went to a coin show today and the dealer was selling the 2008 uncirculated ASE for $22 even...i bet that's not the case tomorrow. I would say $25 is high for an uncirculated ASE. however, next year we might would enjoy seeing a $25 ASE...i saw a 2007 w selling for $30 today which I felt was a little overpriced..i paid $20 for mine just a week ago. ten dollars is a big difference to me when it comes to the ASE. the 2006 w was selling 120 bucks and that was the cheapest price. the reverse ASE 2006 was selling at $325 I've seen better prices. so today I left the show empty handed and went to mcdonalds bought a combo meal and got a 2008 penny in great shape---i was more impressed with my find at mcd's than the show...i liked the show, but I liked my penny find better. Excellent! I just scored a complete 1986-2007 set for $464.00 including shipping. A 2008 is an easy find at about $21.00 for BU.
So, right in the same ballpark.
These are for my 16 year old daughter. She cashed in about $500 in savings bonds to buy silver. What a smart girl!
