I would leave it as is. maybe shake the coin to get it lined up in the slab again.
No treats this week for the puppy?

JSW, you'd be wrong about that. Coins in damaged holders are harder to sell and stick in inventory longer.
First, try Novus Plastic Polish which takes most scratches out for $7 a set. And you can use it on all your slabs. A reholder is $10, but you will pay for shipping and insurance both ways. If you can get a dealer to do it for you that regularly sends things in, he may only charge you the $10, but you will need to be a customer. I know several that do this for their clients.

Unless you really believe it's undergraded, I agree with simply letting NGC reholder it.

Thanks, guys!
I'll ask around a few LCS and see who will charge me less to send it in to NGC for a reholder. Thanks!

My gut says crack it. But I am generally anti-slab, so forget I said that. I think the best course of action is to send it in for reholder. I would be reluctant to make any attempts to fix it myself, only in fear of making things worse and increasing the chance that the TPG will refuse service.

A holder with a scratch never held me back, I buy the coin, not the holder. That's just me. I'd never pass on a coin graded appropriately due to a scratch on the holder. That's just petty and picky in my opinion.

Just think about the damage to the coin if it wasn't protected by the holder.

Now that's a scary thought. I recall that chocolate is a good dog laxative.

Quote: Now that's a scary thought. I recall that chocolate is a good dog laxative. Chocolate is poison to dogs. They definitely don't mix. My puppy ate a "fun size' candy bar and it cost around $1000 for the emergency vet visit, IV's, stomach pumping and charcoal the pumped back into her stomach. Not to mention the charcoal making it's return mess I dealt with for 2 or 3 days.

This is true, but it also works to your advantage at times; I've scored some excellent deals on Morgans in damaged holders (usually when someone tries to use acetone to remove residue, or when they've been cracked/mishandled/broken.) I don't usually reholder them unless they're significantly valuable; they tend to get cracked and added to the Danscos.

Sorry to hear COTW, I remember when you got that coin. Still a nice one..I don't know if it's worth getting reslabbed or not. Maybe you could throw it in the air-tite and spend the grading fee to add another coin o your collection!
