I collected many things through the years and coins are the only thing that has panned out for me. Everything else was all hype or no dealers in this area. Finally used my stamp collection for postage and after doing a little trading with some of you other forum members I see you are using your stamp collection for postage as well. I will stick with precious metals and world wide coin collecting till the day I die!

I collect militaria, mostly ww2, with ALMOST as much passion as coin collecting. I also collect random antiques.

Me too. I keep them in my head. I also collect seashells. I keep them on the beaches around the world. Perhaps you've seen some of my shells.

If I could afford a second expensive hobby, it would be books.

My book collection isn't really expensive, but it reflects my interests: Red Book, 44 books, missing 12 editions. National Geograpic Books: 27 editions. Time-Life Sets: World War II, Photography, Mysteries of the Unknown, The Old West. Story of Civilization by Will Durant. World Book Encyclopedia, and every hard-bound supplement since 1962. And, a bunch more. When I go to "my rewatd," our kids, or our library will have a ton of books!

Not all books are expensive. I sometimes get books from the 1800's and often they're not worth more than a few dollars. Last year I had a book from the 1600's that was about french coins...problem was, it was in french. I think it sold for just under $300. That was the most expensive book I've had in a long time. Books can be a very interesting collectible...very rewarding. I used to use bibliofind.com to locate scarce books and I suppose it still works though it's lost some of the novelty now that Amazon owns it. On a personal note I don't really collect anything for myself anymore, though I have a deepset passion for vintage kitchen glassware and gadgets, as well as antique ivory netsukes & obsolete currency. I collect red books and natl' geos too! Just got back from Idaho and found a nice 13th ed. Red Book for cheap. We have 17 shelves for our national geos. DH collects war medals and cigars. I like to smoke them. [:p] We collected action figures (MIB) for a long time, and have hundreds of them in storage right now. (anyone know a collector? ) I collect money to fund our money collection, toys to entertain a 4 year old, and lots of clothes that I sell on ebay. When we move back to Idaho we are starting a gun collection, DH just inherited a collection of 100+ rifles/handguns, and my dad has my set of these (never fired) http://web1.atlanta.gbhinc.com/Auct...tem=35864367

When I retired from teaching, I left 75,000 copies of National Geographic at my school. From time to time I hear they are still being put to good use by the students.
