Today while waiting for a friend at the doctors office, I was reading about the Two Cent. I never paid much attention to cent denominations being a "silver dollar" or "cartwheel" lover. But the Two Cent has caused my eye to wander. The 1864 has loads of history behind it. Here is one I hope to fondle in my gruby hands. Edited by CCya 11/04/2005 3:27 pm

CCya, your topic title sure caused my eyes to wonder (or wander). If you get your hands on the coin in the images, it will indeed be an affair to remember! That's some nice coin!

Yes, 2 cent pieces are neat. Most people don't even know there ever was such a coin in the U.S. Most of the mint state issues are relatively cheap compared to other denominations. [:p]

I agree adobero1. The 1863 & 1864 small motto and 1872 in MS and proof 1873 closed 3 get pretty salty but the rest of the 10 year issues are still reasonable. But for pete sake, don't tell anybody !!

Hey hey People I thought I was the only 2 Cent freak here. No wonder pickings have been slim recently. If anyone has die cracked/offcentre/Doubled or rotated versions I would be intersted in Pictures if not the actual coin

I am so fascinated with the story behind Longacre's 2 cent piece and the adoption of the motto. It would be neat to put together a set with patterns and regular issue 2 cent pieces with different mottoes (e.g. God and Our Country; God Our Trust).

Wasn't the motto "God and our country" used with George Washington on the obverse ? Who was on the obverse of "God our Trust" pattern?

Yes! J-312, also a shield, had God Our Trust, as did some patterns of other denominations in 1861.
