If you find a 16 D Merc in a roll, buy the lottery ticket next.
The proof strikes on the 42 Merc is extra sharp compare to the regular business strikes and on the reverse the split bands on top, middle and bottom would be clearly separated to see without a loupe. Finding modern day proofs in rolls isn't uncommon, but finding a 42 dime proof in a roll would most likely becomes a impair proof and is like winning the lottery again!

and macmercury can you explain what the split bands are, I'm sorry to spound so ignorant, but I just stared getting into merc's?

on my 42 in found in the that roll along with 21 D. if what I'm comprehending what split bands are, without a loupe, the top " Band " looks like 3 stripes, the middle looks like it has two stripes and the bottom looks like it has 2 stripes also goind across the pilar. Thats if, I'm comprehending what you mean by bands.

i put it in a coin sleve becuase ive never seen a merc in this kind of condition, even found a 43 in this same condition

That 1942 is NOT full bands . the middle bands are joined together . The 1921-D looks like G-04 .

Here's a example of one of my Mercury dimes, you can see that all the horizontal bands in between are fully split.  I would also look at as many examples on ebay with FB or FSB designation from NGC, PCGS and ANACS.

I see that helps alot... thanks again guys for all the help... One last thing please, sorry to ask so many questions, but are there any doubled die veriety of mercs, lets say 43 inparticular?
