Since we're on the topic of die errors, this looks like a possible die crack, but I've not found many.

Looks more like bad teeth. LOL The black spots? These are sneeze droplets from someone without a Kleenex. They are usually noticed more on cents. (they look darker brown in color on cents)

I did not notice the spots, but another thing learned! Thanks
What about the crack or dent on the mouth area? It looks like a crack, but not sure.

Are die chips like this worth anything?

Usually not. But some will pass them off calling them something that they are not and some collect them. But it is another die event that happened to the die. Now all coins struck after that event will show the same things over and over and actually get worse with time.

Quote: sneeze droplets from someone without a Kleenex It would probably shock a lot of people to know what is on the coins they handle. The Silver and Copper coins are naturally antibacterial, but the Zinc Lincolns and all the rest are most likely covered with all sorts of scary stuff!

Well I was able to add two images to my educational files on this one image. Sneeze droplets. Damage on the coin. It was while making this side by side I noticed this was just damage to the coin in this area. But seeing it side by side was the real clue.

Coop,
Very cool educational images, I'm going to take a look at your links. I have more coins to post/question about.
Thanks again for your help!!

That is just what I do. Help new to learn a quick as possible so they can share what they know with others. That is how the hobby works. We rejoice over one and others finds and help educate along the way. We share what we know and can do for others. I guess that makes us all here coin brothers and sisters.

When I was a kid my Dad used to bring me home coins and jewelry that look just like this. He worked for Dover Elevator and repaired elevators and escalators. When they would do maintenence and clean out the traps on the escalators there would be lots of coins that looked just like it.
