Some guys call the bands on Rooie's full bands and others call it full torch .I'm sure they both mean the same .
It's the 2 sets of bands around the torch .

Here's one with FT

Full-Bands-On-Reverse-Of-Roosevelt-Dime-What-Are-They-Talking-About?

The bands are part of the torch.

I wonder if FB or FT are exactly equivalent, or is one better than the other...

Answer: board software won't let me post the link...so google: Full Torch Full Bands Roosevelt dime

How about FTB for Full Torch Bands?

The abbreviations for full strikes on Rosies has always been a bit vague, unlike the singular FB used for Mercs.

I've always heard a NGC FT is tougher to get than a PCGS FB. I read somewhere that with NGC it must have both split bands as well as detail in the flame on the torch. Is that true?

From PCGS's website...

Quote:

Full Bands
Term applied to Mercury (Winged Liberty Head) dimes when the central band is fully separated (FB). There can be no disturbance of the separation. Also applicable to Roosevelt dimes that display full separation in both the upper and lower pair of crossbands on the torch.

Not quite. NGC's designation of FT (full torch) means that there is separation between the upper and lower horizontal bands split as well as the verticl lines being defined, PCGS's designation of FB (full bands) does not mention the vertical line definitions at all only horizontal bands

Well then these TPG's have to get their act together.
Why should we collectors and dealers alike have to wonder if we have a FT,FB, etc. slabbed roosie or not?

Here's the PCGS release for their designation, which has some pictures explaining the difference.

The right side of the lower bands is opposite the deepest part of the obverse design so they rarely fill in completely especially on the clads.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I picked up a tough one the other day. 1955-P MS66 FT. It's the lowest mintage Roosevelt and pretty hard to find with FT/FB. I don't think I'll ever complete the whole set but this was a nice one to check off the list!

The torch lines look questionable in my picture but they are fully in-tact.
