Quote:
Your initial attribution of S-101 is correct. R5- is the commonly held consensus for scarcity. This is a nice example and extremely attractive!

The first thing I saw was the reverse of 1794, which limited the possibilities to only a few varieties. Then the right side of the T was to the right of the front curl, narrowing it down to S-101 and 103. At first, I couldn't see the inverted B under the B, so I assumed it was 101. But the 6 is too high for a 101, so it must be 103.

That is my logic. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Nope, you're right, TypeCoin. I went back through Sheldon again, then compared it to a few known examples, and you've got the 103. It's a bit tricky to distinguish the two since they share identical reverses and the obverse PUP's are not visually distinctive between Sheldon's 11 and 13 obverses except for the obvious H/B in LIBERTY on the 103. The wear on the obverse on your example makes it hard to discern the shape of the B/H.

The 103 is the scarcer of the two LIHERTY's. Both 101 and 103 are R5-, so it's still a great score, no matter what!

In-hand pictures. The obverse scratches were a surprise and disappointment.

I would be sorry about scratches as well. Keeping it or returning it?

Definitely keeping, and probably selling.

I might be inclined to contact the seller and mention the scratches, and see what they say.

Oh that is a dissapointment for sure. I had high hopes for this one. Best of luck in selling it.

Already have an offer for more than double what I paid. We'll see if I get anything better... Haven't turned them down as I may not get anything better in the next couple weeks.
