Why do you think it doesn't have an "S" mintmark?

Looks to me like there is one right behind his shoulder right where it is supposed to be.

rbrown, here is the PCGS coinfacts page on the 1971 S nickel: http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/4203 As you can see, the mint mark is on the obverse to the right of Jefferson's bust, and below the date. Perhaps you are confusing mint mark placement with that of War Nickels (1942-1945) on the reverse of the coin above Monticello?

Your photo has some glare on it which makes it difficult to say for sure. But it definitely appears that there is a mint mark on the obverse right were it's supposed to be, as westernsky said. Turn the coin so that Jefferson is vertical then look around 4:30 near the rim.

and to CCF!

I was confused to where. I thought it would be on the back like the War Nickel. Sorry, did not mean to be a pain to anyone.

You are not being a pain! You cannot learn unless you ask questions.

Thank you for your encouragement. I have a lot of misc coins that were left after I sold all the valuable coins. Now I need college funds so I am searching what is left.

As posted .. it is always best to ask questions ... if you don't know the
answer.

For Jefferson nickels the mint mark could be in one of three different
locations. Depending on the year. In most cases if there is not a mint mark
it is a nickel made ar San Francisco. There are exception, like a 1971 proof
that is missing the mint mark ... or for example a 1944 Henning, missing
the mint mark, but is a counterfeit coin.

Learning about coins can take many years ... decades

I actually do have this set... What I am wondering if I should just sit on it - or have the coins graded - CoinWorld said their are at least three valuable coins in the set. I kinda like just keeping them in the set - since their numbers are dwindling... Your thoughts?

Keep it in the set unless you are going to sell it anytime soon.

Also, make sure your trusted family members know that your set is valuable and WHY it is valuable.

It would be a sad day if something happened to you and your family disposed of your collection and some smuck coin dealer only paid them for a regular 71 proof set instead of the much more valuable 1971 NO S proof set!

Yours appears to be very nice!

Here are three different nickels ... The first is the one shown in the complete set. The second the one with the glare over an S in the original post before the whole set was shown and the third, a normal 1971 S proof nickel.
