If it's all just junk silver, it doesn't matter nearly so much which series you are talking about from the list you gave. 12X face is a great buy, as such.

Better quality coins can't be relegated to a face multiplier.

Mercury dimes you can get for spot.
standing liberty especially if the dates are visible, dealers will charge a little bit more
Barber halves if the dates are visible and not too slick deals will charge a bit more
Walking Liberty halves also go for a little above spot.

How about silver Washington quarters or Roosevelt or Franklin half that are slick or common? If you just want silver you want to get it cheap. I hope you are buying this stuff fro insurance purpose.

The coins are for my nephews. They think it's cool to look at and own coins that can't be found in everyday pocket change. I've been giving the circulated Mercs and walkers for that last couple years. Problem is I'm running out of them. I would really like to get them some barbers.

most everything should run right about 13-14 times face right now. most JFKs, washingtion quarters and roosevelts will be nicer; AU to some MS examples from the 60s. as you get older the quality goes down fast even in the 1950s finding an xf quarter is few and far between. you can find nicer examples of later Franklin halves easy enough, most Mercury dimes will be VF or worse; most SLQs will be VG or worse. most barber will be G or worse. if you get lucky and find a seated it's gonna be G at best. keep updated with junk silver prices by checking this thread. http://goccf.com/t/247670

right at this moment,, halfs are running at 6.20$ for melt, quarters are 3.10, so if you can buy half dollars or quarters at close to this price you will do o.k., keep in mind if they are heavily worn, you want to pay a little less..Most dealers pay way under spot and have a little room to negotiate..if it was me, and only trying to collect for silver value, I would buy the newer stuff, 1964 coins, as there will be more silver in them from less wear..

@mkman....I need to shop where you shop for sure.

I have never seen Mercury dimes or any other 90% silver sold for spot.

13.5 x face is the going rate around here right now.

You will probably have to pay a little over face

If that is your selling plan I will take all of your silver dimes for 12¢, silver quarters for 28¢, and I'll splurge since I am a half kind of guy take all of your classic silver halves for an astonishing 70¢ each.

I can send you a pic of cash in hand if you want to make a deal.

I think he meant "spot" instead of "face."

@Debra, I too am very fortunate to be able to buy US 90% for spot price (and actually a little less since they weigh them) even if the coins are cleaned, worn, or slightly damaged. So I am spoiled but 13x face doesn't seem too bad right now.

Also very worn older silver coins can lose as much as 10% of it's silver. Just something to keep in mind.

@Debrajc I've been able to find Mercury dimes, roosies, frankies and kennedys for spot before but you have to look around.

When it comes to earlier stuff like Barber dimes, halves, quarters, Standing Liberty quarters, and Walking Liberty halves, thats when I've noticed a bit over spot asking price by individuals or dealers.
