Having a rep is not always great. I would have missed out on the MC Voyageur if I had relied on my rep because it was sold out before he notified me of it. I ordered on-line the day before his e-mail notification. He also dropped the ball initially on the Parliament MC coin though did come through in the end.
And I asked him Thursday to order the coin packs. Still have not heard from him and the order is not on my account.
The biggest problem with using a rep is it's a single point of failure. If he/she is out of the office or not responding, you may miss out. It's also inconvenient. Much easier to just order on line.
Of course the advantage is being able to order over HH limits sometimes. But alas, I'm not going to make MC this year...first time in over a decade...so bye bye ordering from the Mint. Dealers are simply a better alternative now, even with the cost of shipping.

Falling off the MC program seems to be wide spread. I am good for one more year until 2018 because of the expensive sets like the Legacy of the Penny set bought last quarter of 2016. After that I will be hard pressed to make even the lower tier of MC program. Only bought the Pysanka and the renewed 50 cents this year from the RCM. Killing the FV program also hurt too. I am sure lots of MC members get their status by buying the FV coins. Just buying the limits will easily make you Platinum.

I buy enough to have a rep and have twice declined; if I'm spending the required $5000/year I should have the same benefits as other PP members.

My RCM rep is great. Quick responses to any email that I send. I have never been disappointed.

@mcshilling I do spend enough to have a rep. I was simply addressing some who seem to not be able to get responses from their reps. I don't understand because they are on commission. @onecad I understand that you do not wish to deal with a rep. That is really too bad because you will get all the advance releases with your PP spend. The RCM website always sends their advance notices to me way after my rep. You don't have to talk with your rep. Emails work perfectly:))))) Just fill out the order sheet and voila, done!

I received another call from RCM offering the assistance of a rep and I've decided to give it a try to see if there's any worthwhile service provided. Here is what was listed in the email as the benefits; The Benefits of an Account Manager 1. More Advance Notice By dealing exclusively with me, you will receive 24 hour advance notice in addition to the existing advance notice you are currently receiving. For example: if you currently receive advance notice on Tuesday, you will now be receiving it on the Monday. This ensures you are among the first members in your respective tier who are given the opportunity to place orders for hot, new coins thereby avoiding a missed opportunity. 2. Exclusive Access To Information Regarding Hot, New Coins As you know, some of our coins sell-out faster than others. Given my knowledge and expertise, I am able to quickly identify which coins will be fastest to sell-out. This will give you the necessary insight to facilitate the decision-making process. 3. All Your Needs In One Place Managing your collection can sometimes require a bit of help. Any issues, concerns, or feedback, can all be directly handled by me to ensure consistency and grade of service. 4. My availability You may reach me at either my office or cell number listed in my signature. I am at the office weekdays from 9am-5pm. If calling outside these hours, please call my cell phone. You may also send me a text message. 5. FULL HD Launch Videos Often times our coins are not well represented by the pictures being used on the website. This is due to the fact that the images are digitized, and are no longer a true depiction of what the coins actually look like. I will be including full HD videos of most of our coins which will give you a true representation of them. 6. Proactive SELL-OUT ALERTS! I will be sending you SELL-OUT ALERTS! For products recently released products which are on the verge of selling out. This will avoid the frustration of missing out on an opportunity that was otherwise forgotten. *Requirement For Service Eligibility* In order to qualify for the service, only 1 thing is required of you as a customer. Simply place all your future orders through me, either by sending a quick email with your order, calling, or texting me as it is impossible for me to manage orders placed through the website.

"You may reach me at either my office........."
Onecad it would be interesting if you asked your "Account Manager" for an appointment to discuss your purchasing intentions at that "office". lol!

onecad, do you know if reps are typically the staff we might be speaking to when we call to place an order? I ask because I spoke with both a Lance and a John recently, trying to get some clarity on the 10pack cup coins and got the distinct impression from both that this order was not significant to them. They were both polite. No one has offered me the service of a rep, fyi. Wondering if as experienced salespeople (the kind who know who's just kicking tires vs. the real deal "serious buyer") reps are discerning about who they invite to be represented or just something else?

These reps are on commissions they generally invite you to join when you spend too much at the RCM, like over 5000 bucks, not to be crass but why would they bother with someone wanting to order a 2.50 items.

John, I feel that anyone spending too much @ RCM has, literally, earned the entitlement to feel that RCM reps are working for him or her. Not the other way 'round. For example, what precisely are the terms of service? If one didn't write them, then it's hard to be surprised when they sound like they were written by the boss of you. One of two ways to fix this sort of problem: stop spending too much. Or, get better service. When they need customers it will seem like they want your business.

I think commissioned reps also works as customer service reps on the phone. In between new releases, there is little work for them. I remember someone on this forum saying they wanted a rep and the customer service person they were talking to on the phone offer themselves as a rep. Its possible reps get a base salary, in addition to commission.

There is no terms of service for reps, you spend a lot in a year, they will contact you, but in the last couple years with no really hot coins, really very little benefits from a rep.

I think they flag people who spend a lot of money at the RCM, not necessarily $5000. I got my rep when I bought a few of the 1912-1914 Bank of Canada Gold Hoard coins. I bought around $2000 of the coins. A few weeks later I got an email and then a phone call from a rep asking how he can help me. He ask me about my coin preferences. So, if you bought a Kilo coin or other high ticket item, there is a good chance you will get a rep, one way or another. Buying $2.50 coins certainly won't get you a rep.
