I looked it up, and your bill's serial number does not match any of the common or known fakes. Therefore, I believe it's probably real. Try going on ebay and looking for bills of similar condition. I can also pretty much guarantee that someone on her knows about these. Check back here to see what they have to say. My collection is Mainly 1853 to present american coins with a heavy bias to wheat pennies. I can grade those fairly well, as can many others here. I'm happy to help, as are most of the other members here.

I am not super knowledgeable about these, but based on limited experience, I would guess it to be in the $75 to $100 range.

Here is a recent ebay auction - auction bill was in slightly better condition and certified by PMG. I noticed that your bill was signed by a different Treasure and letter on left hand bottom corner is different Z vs W http://www.ebay.com/itm/T-66-PF-11-...p=true&rt=ncGood luck learning about your bill - let us know what you find out ...

This is not really a rare CSA note and given the condition as shown in the provided pictures I would value this note at $60-$70 if sold at auction through ebay. I do think that it is authentic.

This is really cool... I have never seen one of these. Is the paper good quality?

Fragile... it has been at the bottom of a box in an attic for over a hundred years. But it is one piece and clearly in tact. The color is good. Fascinating... the history of it. Thanks for your reply!

Please note this bill is a Richmond Feb 17, 1864 bill (not 1861 as stated in the first post). Yeah, I know the "4" looks sort of like a "1", but the first Confederate bills were not printed until later in the year. The bill does appear to be genuine, although the condition is not the best. With currency as well as coins, the better the condition, the more valuable it is. To roughly determine what grade the bill is, I'll post a general guideline. Quote: Crisp Uncirculated = No folds, no problems. Complete and square margins/borders. Uncirculated = No folds. No problems. Border may be cut into the margin but not into the design. May be uneven excess border areas as well. AU = 1 cross-body fold. A corner fold or 2 may be tolerated as well. XF = 3 cross-body folds. A corner (even wide) fold or 2 may be tolerated. VF = No more than 8 cross-body folds. The note will have good body and crispness by definition. Circulation wrinkling counts as folds. F = The note is complete and the design and lettering clear and strong. The note retains some body. VG = The note is complete but may have edge splits. The design is readable. No body remains. Limp. G = The note is nearly complete (less than 3% may be missing). The design is well worn and parts are weak. AG = No more than 10% missing. Looks to me to be "G" (Good), meaning it's value is on the low end. As to actual value, I don't know. I did see one like yours on ebay (F grade) with an asking price of $75. So, maybe about $40 to $60 range for yours? I have one Confederate $10 bill (see photo) which is also a Richmond Feb 17, 1864 bill (see photo).

What is RARE is someone making a post wondering about a Confederate States bill, and the bill turning out to NOT be a fake!

Heck no, I'm no expert in currency, I'm more of a coin collector. But lately, I've been dabbling in paper money a bit more. Before I bought my Confederate bill, I did a bit of research, so it was fresh in my mind.
