I've heard that detectorists always practice with their own coins first. Clearly it's a good idea.
It's odd that you should be able to easily find a ring pull but not a quarter.

I didn't get a chance to try any other settings today with all the rain we had. I have read were some tests are done with the coin under a book. The rechargeable batteries came today and are charging, so I will try again tomorrow with fresh batteries.

The rechargeable batteries came today and I tried them in the detector and had no problem with detecting a quarter under a book, but the other detector had no problem either. I spent the day moving beehives and setting up nucs and such, so no time to go looking for coins. Maybe tomorrow.

Went out in the yard today and found a bunch of cast iron fragments and such. Not to surprising because the log house that once stood here was built in the 1890's or so. I did find my Two Cents worth, both memorial Lincolns, a 1974d and the other I can't tell. So I am up to three pennies now

Nice truck. A little Bondo and some paint, it will be as good as new. Hope you're having nice weather and can get out to detect soon.

Been out several times, nothing but junk so far. Found an old dump pile from the railroad that had a lot of large bolts and nuts, also spikes and such. Would have been a good find twenty years ago, but it is all rusted now.

In that rail road junk -- did you find any date nails? Those are worth conserving. The prices on those has dropped over the past decade, but they're still collectable.

This pile was mostly large bolts and nuts, also some spikes of different sizes and styles. Found quite a few rail road spikes (of course), but also a bunch of others that are used for spiking lumber together.

I have seen quite a few of the date nails still in various timbers on bridges and such, never gave any thought to them being worth anything.

Oh that is not good news. I had a metal detector when I was a kid but I don't remember what company it was... Now I have a Garrett AT Pro. Good machine but I'm getting an XP Deus after this one.

Buddy - lovely truck, and of course, don't ever paint it. I hope the wheels and tires don't match. Going to add rear wheel fenders in time?

Love the truck... and the car next to it. Looks to be a C3 corvette?

I also have a 1977 Corvette that I installed a LS1/4l60e engine/tranny into from a 1998 Camaro. The Corvette is also on my hotrodders photo journal. The pickup has a 5.3L/4l60e from a 2002 Avalanche (engine) and 2003 Suburban (tranny)
