From the article: "Data on labels did not include box numbers or any sort of Mint identifier."
So the Philadelphia had labels but the labels did not mention the origin like West Point Mint or WPM. So it keeps people from ripping off labels and submitting it. It will be missing the original computer generated label without the West Point Mint identifier. That is what I got from it. PCGS said they won't grade an box regardless if it has a West Point Mint label no matter the serial number.

It's quite clear on how to identify 2015p boxes now. I just haven't gone back to look what the old code was to see if it is roughly the same as the new code. The already slabbed ones could be right

Because of duplication of box tracking numbers at Philadelphia and West Point, as well as any mistakes in labeling or the possibility that labels on the boxes could have been removed or altered at any time after shipping, the Mint will make no attempt to "verify" the origin of any boxes using techniques related to tracking numbers, labels, or otherwise.
What part of the usmint statement don't you understand cascade. It's very simple, don't make it complicated. If the U.S. Mint can not verify the origin of the boxes then that means that the grading companies should not verify the coins either. It is underlined! Dont over think it like bret said. Dont say the slabs could be right. they should not be graded at all period. Do you really think grading companies got it right for every coin they graded as being from the P mint. it will be equivalent to saying this guy is the father of this baby with out a DNA test. But label collectors don't really care if it's accurate they are just buying the slab label and not the coin, as long as the slab says it's from Philadelphia there ok. If they cared for the coin they could just buy a $17 raw coin or a ms69 regular brown label for $30. I think this is why they are still buying them, they don't care if the mint says they got it wrong. Sorry if I got carry away, I just don't get why people are forcing it, if the mint can't verify them then that should be end of story. People that are forcing it are the ones that probably bought the slabs already.

That's just a legal indemnity clause by the Mint. Doesn't mean what was slabbed previously is correct or not but it does probably mean the tpgs won't slab them any longer even with the revised coding.

I bet a lot of people paid a lot of money for these mis-labeled coins. That really stinks. I can only imagine the bidding frenzy on ebay when these came up.

Why in the world. Sad times we are living, he could have bought a regular label slab for like $30. It's the same coin. He could have donated $5,000 to starving children instead of giving it away to ripoff coin dealers. What do you need the label for?. This is embarrassing to coin collectors. People will think we're dumb for playing the label slab game. I thought coin Collectors were smart people, I guess not. This is beyound stupid. It's like saying I'll exchange you your 1 dollar bill for 100 dollars. What, why?. This is as embarrassing to the hobby as mike mezack is.

I wonder is PCGS has any liability in all this. They slabbed the coins and put all the fancy labels on them. Now it appears they are now what they represented when they slabbed them. I can see a class action law suit coming at some point on this.

All that PCGS guarantees is that the coin is genuine and the grade is correct

Ha, I bet now the people who bought the 2015 P slabs will want to return it, not because they think the coin might not be from the P mint. They don't really care if it's accurate. They will want the new graded ones with the revised 79,500 number, how do you know it's really from Philadelphia? TPGs response "because we say so" lol. Oh ok.

It seems now the whole premise of the 2015 Philadelphia minted ASE is now defunct. If you have one slabbed already, it's origin can never be proven. So what most seasoned collectors considered just bullion and nothing special is now truly just bullion and nothing special. So many people fell for all the hype, "Rarest ASE in history and you have to have it at this ridiculous price.". So now we sit and wait for the fecal matter to hit the air movement device. I don't know if purchasers of this coin will have any type of recourse but I'm sure many will try. P.T.Barnum called this one.

The fact is that it hasn't really affected sales. Yesterday two MS69's sold for $535 and $479 and an MS70 sold 3 days ago for $5515
I guess the buyers are just declaring the facts as "Fake News"...much easier to get through life that way
In their mind it is valuable and they will pay top dollar for it. Definitely not worth losing any sleep over.

HSN is selling 2017 sets slabbed as W, P, and S. I assume these fall into the same category as the 2015?
