Mine should arrive tomorrow graded PF69 in a NGC slab. At first I struggled with this medal.
But I kept being drawn back to it. So I paid the 65 bucks.
There is something other than those big stars that grabs me. I think that the Lady Liberty is just one absolutely beautiful sculpture. So realistic, it is almost a photograph. The eagle on the reverse is fantastic as well.
Yes the initials bother me a bit.

There are eagles and then there are egos.

I think the design is so nice, the initials almost go unnoticed despite them being badly placed.
Guess I'll just pretend they are other birds flying far off in the background.

I didn't buy one because it's a medal, not a coin...

That is a shame. Medal collecting is a wonderful compliment to coin collecting -- medals share more similarities with coins than they do differences! They also often allow a level of artistic expression and detail that is not available on coins.

I'd encourage you to evaluate this (or any other) medal on its artistic and/or historical merits rather than just on whether it carries a denomination (which on modern NCLT is more symbolic than practical).

I wish you the best with your collecting!

I was interested in last years medal but didn't think it would be an instant sellout, so I don't have one. I really didn't have much interest in this medal mostly due to the price. After much thought, I decided to add it to my order with the enhanced set. I would rather have it than not and almost wanted to wait for the price to go down on the secondary market in a year or two but that may never happen. With all the dis interest it may end up with a pretty good mintage number.

I hardly notice them now.

Okay, I will be thinking of that when I see them now!

For the record, I was "down on medals" once. Comemms made me a believer.

Mine came today in the mail and I looked for any flaws and couldn't find a one.
I also bought this for the medal itself and not mintages or worrying about future runs, depreciation or appreciation.
When something calls out to you, that's the one to buy I guess.
Looks way better than this image I managed to get of it. Couldn't capture the reverse but I like how the frosting actually makes the head and tail feathers a slightly different whiter color. It make the bald eagle look like a bald eagle. No regrets here.

The initials are there but in hand the eagle is so eye catching, they don't bother me like I thought they might.
They also look more obvious in images than when it is in hand. I rate this medal at a 9+ out of 10.

NickelGuy, that medal looks amazing! I felt the same as you from the moment I first saw images of the medal. It was a "must have"!

Nice medal, TheNickelGuy! I am also looking forward to the 4-medal set. With the finishes and the packaging, it looks to be a winner.

I think it will make a good compliment to the 2014 Kennedy set.

Ok OK, you guys convinced me, I ordered one... Also picked up a Trade dollar for my 7070 album that JBuck made me start by posting his nice pics.
We moved back to Illinois from California, and unpacking everything my wife hands me a velvet bag and tells me these were her Dads coins if I wanted them... Opened it up and there 3 Morgans and a 1850 Large cent in really decent shape, along with some European francs and marks that were in poor shape... Nice surprise... One of the Morgans and the Lg Cent went into my 7070...
Her Dad won 2 Bronze Stars on Guadalcanal... He was a forward artillery/radio guy that called in strikes from the front lines.

Very nice, mtuma3! That 7070 seems to be filling out well.

Thanks J, I'll post 7070 pics after the Trade dollar arrives... It's about 80% complete. I had quite a few of the coins just sitting in 2x2's in a box. Nice to see them in an album. To be honest I never knew about the Type album until I saw your pics. I've been collecting off and on since I was a kid, glad I found this site. I've picked up a lot of knowledge here just reading posts.
