That area is deeper into the die, so I don't think it is a die dent, or die gouge. Seems odd that the field is weaker than the bust area affected. But die polishing affects just the field so that could weaken that area. Not sure on this one. The strongest areas is deeper inside the die. Looks like I might have Mike Diamond to look that this one?

My day thus far has been total dung, But to get get Coop and Mike Diamond to respond to my post, Well Life is looking up. Could I send one of these to either of you two for a closer look?

Thanks Mike. I knew it had to be something different as it broke all the rules of a die issue to me. Always good to enlarge our coin-iary (sorry, made up word) education.

Here is a bit of home work for you. Put a nickel with this design under a microscope and place a put a tooth pick on the coin. This will help you to see how small the struck through item could be. Measure between the cheek to the collar on the coat. That will give you an idea how small it was. New try a straight pin/needle or even something smaller if you have an item like that. Then you will see how minor something would have to be to cause this issue. (Images would be helpful also)

Thanks Halo, It did ring a bell with me as well! I thought of the other 2017 P nickel. But I can't seem to find the thread.I finished the box and found a whopping 56 with the same hubbed in debris. But I also found these 2 with what looks like a rim burr strike through. I also laid a toothpick on the last pic. That was seriously small piece of debris!
