Good question. I think I misread the OP and assumed too much.

to the CCF.

I'll be the contrarian here ... in the spirit of education and sharing from my experience base.

Based on my extensive nickel roll searching this is the most common date of all pre-1960 Jefferson ... and will never be worth more than 5 cents a coin unless in mid-MS with truly 5 full steps.

Even then it will take a TPG certification to convince the collecting public ...

If you believe any of your found roll coins qualify in that regard ... mid-MS with truly 5 full steps ... well, then congratulations indeed.

Otherwise ... these are a common date readily available by the hundreds of millions and accessible to anyone who chooses to search 5 nickel rolls.

Do indeed appreciate your sharing of the full roll find ... I would indeed enjoy it as well ... simply want all of to remain calibrated on 'find excitement' versus numismatic value.

Or are we just assuming that he got them from his bank?

Because he/she said so themselves ... you need to get past the grammar and spelling ... but here is the OP statement on origin of the roll:

To me these are just spenders. Why lug them around with zero upside potential?

For some perspective:

Over the years, I've found dozens of AU/AU+/MS 1959D (and other dates/mm) nickels. Sometimes by the roll...sometimes comingled with other dates/mms. Since I'm building a roll collection of Jefferson nickels, I can appreciate those odd events when you get a full roll of uncirculated coins. But as others have pointed out, not a ton in value keeping the excess. And there lies my problem: separation anxiety.

In the end, I keep the very best for myself and use the extras for trade with other collectors. Space is not much of an issue...and since these coins are found at face, not too costly to keep in bulk. If the cost of keeping adversely affected the funds to CRH...I might feel differently and dump the excess. Comes down to what you like to keep, reasons/justification to do so, and benefit.

I got them from the bank like I stated when I was asked where I got them. I personally would never buy any coins that cost more then face value. I buy rolls from the banks and search them. If I find something worth more then face value I sell it. I have a wiconsin state extra leaf on ebay right now I started the bidding at $25. It might be worth more then that but I'm totally ok with what ever I get.

Newguy - you shouldn't avoid buying rolls of coins if you think/know that they may have variety/errors. It may end up a good investment. Just do your homework...pay what you can or feel that they are worth. Would you pass paying $8 on a roll of BU 1959D nickels if you knew they were a sought variety? You might make your money back on the first few coins.

Bottom line: it's great to get lucky and snag a roll of fine coins for face value from the bank, but it's not the only way to acquire fine coins (at a fair price) that you may want for your personal collection or trade. Good luck on the hunt!

Is it an Extra Leaf High or Extra Leaf Low? I found a Low one a little while back and sold it for $26:

I believe the High version is worth more, though. Not bad for finding in change.

It's my birth year, and I bought one at a LCS probably 45 years ago to put together a birth year set, and I bet I paid a quarter for it, so all you have to do is find 40 people like me.

Well, it was stated after I made my assumption, so I still goofed. Or I am psychic. But I do not believe in the paranormal.
