Nice F'S-802 when I saw your pictures I hoped you hadn't canned it. The 802 is an awesome variety and although yours is late die state it sure looked like my old AU55 example I have. Turned upside down the doubling really pops out dosent it? I haunt been lucky enough to find one but its good to know their still out there. I did manage to buy one after looking for 2 years and get the biggest kick studying it. I paid $65 for it and wouldn't let it go for under $300, marketwise that's not realistic but this one is pretty scarce and I intend to hang onto it. The 801 is a real hoot but can easily be found for a couple hundred, I like its little buddy the 802 better. Congratulations man great roll find.

Hi, new here. I believe I have the same coin. Trying to get good pics.

Since I'm new here I'm kinda confused. While tend to believe the image "proof" I'm also concerned about the people that say this is not the "real deal." Especially the very first reply (from a long time member) that seemed to give a pretty detailed explanation as to why it's not the "real deal".....

A lot of Die Deterioration and MD. Why it's not so obvious MD all over is that deterioration softens the device edges, so only the sharper remains edges cut into the metal. Note the E of CENT, the bars have classic shelf-like appearance/and reduction in size but when looking at the other letters its just mushy and angled.

Plus ALWAYS note the direction of movement. On hub doubling, It will usually be restricted to a small area, growing weaker around the coin. If you notice similar movement as in CENT , then notice UNITED, same direction and amount(distance). I always look for rotational movement over a vertical/horizontal plane.

Is this coin here indeed the valuable one?

Joe, it is. I understand your concern. Don't use this forum as your "end all", instead use it as a stepping stone or a guide. Always do your homework and don't stop with just a second opinion. Always remember, a lot of the feedback here will depend on your ability to photograph exactly what you see and convey that to the folks here to the best of your ability.

So I guess that "crazy" guy just talks a good game. I wonder how many people he's talked in and out of things. Maybe important things.

JoeSas. Sometimes images can be deceiving. Too much light, too little light, coin damage, different die states, poor quality of image, to close, to far away, knowing what to look for. All these things are factors. When you've seen 10 coins, it is hard to share what you know, with someone who has seen a million coins. So experience, having your eye develop to see differences, being able to see differences of design and being able to recall. Some years have different events going on (Large devices, small devices, spacing between the devices being different, different things to remember. So all these things are factors, because there are somethings that happen. or created that shouldn't happen when coins are being struck. I'm still learning new things all the time. So it take time to spot differences and being tactful to explain what you can see, that the other collector may not see. So while most of the time I may comment right away, other times I past it by and come back to it later. Sometimes you need to look up more information, or make comparisons with images. Having a great image library helps a lot. But I'm still adding about 3-8 images per day to already huge educational images files. We all at times will make an incorrect assessment, thus we want to give the best answer possible. What works for me it to not say yes or no answers. It doesn't teach anything. I try to help the student see what I see on the coin. That does two things. It pleads my case, but also teaches other what to look for to know for themselves. Kind of like the saying, "Give a man a fish and he will feed his family for a day. But teach a man how to fish, then he will feed his family a life time." So That is what I try to do. Help them see what I see on a coin.

I get it coop, just frightens me that someone can lay out reasons for their logic so eloquently and be dead wrong. Especially from someone that seems to reply to so many posts that way.

Yes, he does. He knows his stuff, but he is wrong sometimes. We are all wrong sometimes. What coop said above is spot on, but even he is wrong, sometimes.
