It wasn't what I expected for some reason. I could tell there was something different with it just from picking it up. It seems all the ones I see here on the posts are really ugly, this one is in decent shape considering the life that it has had.

I hope you all find one as well - just one of those oddities that it is nice to have one of (IMO)

Dryer Coins come in different shapes and forms. Yours looks like the beginning stages of it.

I'm no expert but I'm not sure it's a Dryer Coin. To me it looks like someone started spooning it and gave up. If you search for "spooning coins" and click images, you'll see quite a few Roosevelts that look exactly like this.

Is there a distinguishing characteristic between a spooned coin and and earlier stage Dryer Coin? I don't know.

The spooned coin that I saw was less smooth on the edge--more "faceted" than evenly deformed like our so-called Dryer Coins.

Yeah, I don't know, I'm just raising the possibility. If you click Dryer Coin the ones I see with such an exaggerated raised rim look a lot more thrashed than this one. If you were meticulous about spooning I don't think the rim would be very "faceted" - after all, they make these into very nice rings. Clearly it's either spooned or dryer, unless there's another option I'm not aware of!

Definitely a Dryer Coin. Spooned coins are done to make a ring out of a coin. With a dime, once you spoon over material it would be too small in diameter for even the tiniest fingers.

Here's a video that explains the spooning process:

Thanks for all the great feedback. I really don't know how to tell the difference.
Early stage Dryer Coin or spooned?
I can say that the rim is sharp on both sides and that it is still perfectly round.
I don't see any dings around the edge.
The only device that seems to be effected is the bottom of the 4, don't know if that is even a factor because of the Die Deterioration.

Note: It looked like the rims on the spooned coins were more rounded.

@chafemasterj Thanks for sharing that video clip - it was really interesting.

An excellent find. Weird that we love that form of PMD.

Certainly a good example. Congratulations.

Very cool - Thanks coop for doing that and also my little "Image By" Logo. Can you put that little logo up separately so I can download it and add it to my pics when I post them?

You're the best

My newest 3-D sterogram. (you look at it turning the 5 rows into 6 and you can see deep inside the image. The squares don't look like they are even in height.
