Thanks... what about pennies, nickels, and dimes? Always the S mint marks are for collectors?

@angloamerican - you are correct. I was not sure when they stopped the "S" penny. @Nonna - with a few exceptions, yes most current "S" mint marks are mostly for collectors.

For Cents, S mint marks 1975 forward were intended for collectors only. For dimes, S mint marks 1968 forward were intended for collectors only. For nickels, s mint marks 1971 forward were intended for collectors only. For quarters, s mint marks 1968 forward were intended for collectors only. For halves, s mint marks 1968 forward were intended for collectors only.
This should help you guys out!

Just for the record, there were "S" circulation strikes of the SBA dollar in 1979 and 1980, but only for collectors in 1981 through mint sets. Is that right? Were there any "S" Ike dollars minted for circulation?

I don't believe that there were any S mint IKES for circulation, but I'm not too familiar with the Ike series. However, I think there were 1981S SBA's minted for circulation as well.

All 1981 SBA coins from all three mints (P-D-S) were NIFC. None were issued for circulation. All of the 1981 business strikes went right into the mint sets.

Buy a " Red Book" and you will find all the information you need and more. Ignore it's prices - they are retail and always out of date (well, as a relative indication they're ok). This is the current one, but last years or the year before is more than good enough... https://www.amazon.com/2019-Officia...p/0794845711

I've thrown some "S" mm ATB Quarters into circulation. Some cashiers looked at them and asked if they were real. KK

I can't believe it. A cashier that can make change? Did he/she use their iPad?

I really throw them off when I give them the bills and change and they have to just give me back a singles, a fiver or ten. They always give me the change back and say I gave them too much.
