0% chance it will grade as a genuine XF '16-D. Less than a 1% chance it would grade as a genuine 1916-D Mercury dime.

This ebay seller has no other coins for sale and has never sold a coin based on sold listings so I'm inclined to think they have no idea that it's a fake. The listing should still be nuked however...

Definately counterfeit. Looks like someone has beat up on it to hide any markers. Hope you didn't buy it.

Quote: Maybe Bobby can nuke it. It's already been reported to the counterfeit forum but our contact at ebay declined to remove it. States it's just damage.

Quote: States it's just damage. Then ebay's opinion is that it is genuine?

No offense but if I'm looking for an authentic circulated 16-D Mercury dime in good shape, well that's not it.

Coins are removed when there is no question at all that they are fake. This coin may have indeed been counterfeit, but as damaged as it was, it really would have little impact on the hobby. 99% of the coins we report are removed. From time to time, for whatever reason, one gets by. It is not something I get too upset about.
