I have a few that look like your's. Mine seems to be a combination of Working Die Doubling (WDD) and Die Deterioration Doubling ( DDD). Mine also has a doubled HP, Portrait, and pointed tail on the Beaver due to a Die Break. |

I have a 1950 with a die crack beaver tail also. Have you seen the hearing aid nickel. I have one of them too if ya want to see it?

I have that one as well - the die crack in the beaver tail - and I would say that one has good prospects for increasing in value (once collectors find out about it). I would be surprised if more than a few dozen folks even have one. I also have the hearing aid one.

I have been looking around and it looks as if error canadian coins are worth less then normal ones. Is that true? Is it because there so many errors out there?

All else being equal, I doubt the errors are worth less. In many cases they have strong demand, such as the "diving goose" dollar.

Generally an error coin will trade for no less than a regular coin. Few collectors are aware of this area of the marketplace, and how it is growing. Note that even regular coins can trade within quite a range (i.e., 100% or more above average prices and 50% or more below average prices).

I agree that the error coins here do NOT sell for less. The canadian books rarely mention them, but they are out there, and they are worth collecting. I think the real problem is that everyone already knows about the very famous errors in american coins and that means that there isn't a lot of attention paid to the canadian coins. I have found some really good ones.

I'm not sure if there is a website. I have been told that The Royal Mint site actually has a list of coin errors, but I have never gone to try to find it. Navigating the mint site in canada is a real pain. lol What I do know is what the sellers at the coin stores here and the flea markets are charging and it's not cheap. There must be something out there to help people. Maybe I will start my own site and start listing errors that we on the forum are able to find :) |

Thanks Malissa I bookmarked those sites, tks. I found a hearing aid nickel on ebay, its a 1950 with this description: "Canada Error 1950 5 Cent Nickel Due to two dies clashing together with no coin between them, result in a pattern of lines inside the King's ear, along his neck, and what looks like a spike at the back of his neck refer to it as the "hearing aid" variety..."
