It seems that our mint and congress have learned nothing by issuing yet again another dollar coin series that is doomed to failure. I will have nothing to do with these coins until the date and MM are returned to the obverse. I think reeded coins would be more interesting on dollars.

Quote: It seems that our mint and congress have learned nothing by issuing yet again another dollar coin series that is doomed to failure. Oh, they learned something. They learned to make them NIFC and limit the mintage accordingly. Doomed for failure? Not for their intended purpose. I give them a C+ or maybe a B-. Now, if they want an A they need to kill the one dollar note and let these guys circulate. Also moving the date and mint mark to the obverse will get them that A+.

I can't wait to get my hands on these and spread them far and wide.

I still can't wrap my mind around the date and mintmark being relegated to the rim. Once again, the mint is trying way too hard to satisfy way too many political agendas. Remember how much everyone (except me) hated the SBA? Makes me wish for those good ol' days.

I do not think it is an agenda. I think they just think it is cool to have edge lettering. It is not.

I can't wrap my head around why we always blame the Mint for doing things that are required by the legislation that Congress passed.

Quote: The image in the OP shows the rim. I see, still an artists rendition though. I want to see the real coin. Quote: If those stars move will they change the coin? They are moving, who knows in 20,000 years or so they may need to. Quote: I can't wait to get my hands on these and spread them far and wide. Sounds good as long as you realize you will lose money with everyone you spend.

Quote: I do not think it is an agenda. I think they just think it is cool to have edge lettering. It is not. @jbuck To clarify: by "satisfy way too many political agendas" I meant that including certain themes on a coin is meant to satisfy political agendas. Sorry for the confusion. Quote: I can't wrap my head around why we always blame the Mint for doing things that are required by the legislation that Congress passed. @Alpha2814 Sorry, I thought that Congress legislates the theme, not the final design. I believe that the date and mintmarks were moved to the rim back in 2009, and I'm not sure if that was legislated by Congress or if that was a design choice by the Mint to accommodate the themes legislated by Congress. I'm sure someone here has a copy of the press release...? For now, I'll blame the Mint, but feel free to correct me.

Congress legislates certain elements of the design. In the case of the Native American dollars, it's in the original legislation. https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg...10publ82.htmQuote: In general.--The inscription of the year of minting and issuance of the coin and the inscriptions `E Pluribus Unum' and `In God We Trust' shall be edge-incused into the coin. Later legislative updates, similar to the Presidential dollars, moved IGWT to the obverse, but the other inscriptions remained on the edge.

I'll revise my earlier comment:
"Once again, the mint Congress is trying way too hard to satisfy way too many political agendas".
I hope that makes everyone feel better.
