My oldest ASE is 1998 and it toned, but that one I got from my dad and he had it improperly stored, so I'm not surprised. I have Mercury dimes from the 1930's that look like they came out of the mint so my expectation is that properly stored coins will be ok. |

Milk spots on ASEs are an issue, mostly normal proofs but all versions have been known to get them. They aren't as much of an issue as they used to be, but still an issue. They're an issue from the mint, the mint themselves admits this and it's something that all the mints world wide experience to some extent with some being worse than others. Aside from some absurd NGC marketing, there is absolutely no shred of credible evidence that the TPG holder has anything to do with it. Milk spots are into the coin they don't sit on the surface and cannot be dipped off |

So if you have a rating of X, and the coin inside the slab develops milk spots or some other flaw, does that original grade no longer count? If you were to buy a coin marked as 70, but when you get it, would you be upset if it had those flaws that occurred/appeared after its encapsulation?

The coin would have to be sold with issues identified...a 70 grade would not be appropriate for a spotted coin..but..grades below that might be

Generally what would happen is it would sell for over the 69 but less than the 70. Some of it depends on how bad the spotting is and where it is. A small spot on the reverse most wouldn't be to overly concerned about, a big one across the face though or many etc would be another store. If you really want to see someone get upset (which they would have every right to be) use a pristine stock photo and send a milk spotted one Edited by basebal21

Went from mailbox to safe in about 4 minutes, might be graded in the near future ( +/- a year) Have collection of ASE's except 1, most in OGP some slabbed. This is the only 1 I would call "boxed"...Not selling unless I find out it's a signed COA |

On the road over the weekend and just saw the latest poll numbers. The "keeping in the OGP" contingent is coming on strong as are the Don't Care group. Honestly I thought those would be the big 2 in final analysis.
Thanks for taking part and keep the votes coming. I guess if you got more than one you can just provide details on a post if you like.
Edit: Wyzeguy, I think the gold plating comment was a joke as was my reply - coin humor. I doubt anyone would seriously consider gold plating one of these outside the HSN crowd...

I got 2 and both are in the OGP. I'm keeping for the long term. In 20 years if I'm still alive (I'll be 70, so maybe doable :) ) it will be cool to tell the kids or grandkids how I had multiple computers open, how I kept getting error messages and sweating while I didn't know if I got it. And then how I was at 7:30 on Friday refreshing the screen until I was able to order another one. I relegate the story about how the coins where delivered by turtles and how long it took to get the coin. How fedex slow post was slower than actually walking from Memphis. How I was excited to get it and then saw I didn't have a signed coa and how happy I was to actually have 2.
Almost like my father would tell me how he walked uphill both ways to school in the snow in summer with no shoes. But he didn't have fedex slow post, all the mail back in the way came via the post and we had no idea how long it would take or where it was at any particular time.
