Does CAC bean old PCGS holders even though they are notorious for their low grades? I read through CAC's web page and it lists coins they accept but says nothing about the holders, also sent them the question on holders but probably will hear nothing untill next week.

I have always been a bit suspicious of the slow and gradual upgrading trend that seems to have happened over the last five years or so.
Has been mentioned a few times by various people here in the CCF.

Keep in mind this date has a PCGS price of just $140 in MS-66. Their population estimate for examples grading at least 65 is 60,000. If it were to re-grade at 67 (or higher!) then the effort would be worthwhile.

CAC will review and sticker all PCGS and NGC certified coins. I wouldn't say old PCGS holders are notorious for low grades but rather that grading standards have (generally) loosened over the years. This coin is a good candidate for a CAC gold bean as it looks like an easy 65 (in the images). |

But if this coin is undergraded, CAC will not give the slab a bean?

Why would CAC not bean the slab if it's undergraded? From what CAC says, the green sticker means "Your coin has been verified as meeting the standard for strict quality within its grade." If a coin is undergraded, it would mean that the coin meets(or exceeds) the standard for the grade it's at.
A gold sticker is a coin that could "easily green sticker at the next highest grade level."
So if this coin is a nice 64 it would get a green sticker. If it's so nice that it would be nice even as a 65, it would get a gold sticker at a 64.

 a good candidate for CAC. This will easily green bean and very possibly get the gold, IMO. Unless we're not seeing something in these pics. |

I am thinking MS 64 without seeing in person. Lots of rim nicks and flecks/pitting, maybe a tarnish spot.

IMO this coin would not gold bean, it's a strong 64+/65 but not decisively undergraded. Luster is good, fields good, strike is average. It would probably green bean as a 64 and it's definitely upper echelon for a 64.
Whomever said $1.1k for a gold 65 is nuts, or that's one heck of an outlier that was severely undergraded -- I can buy nice 65's all day for $70 to $100 and nice 66's for less than $150. 1943 is one of the most common years in high grades. Even 67's have only been selling for 350-500 last couple of years.

Heard back from CAC and here's the reply:
" Thank you for your inquiry. You can apply to be a member and once approved, can submit coins directly to CAC. Otherwise, you can submit your coins through an authorized dealer listed on our CAC website. We do look at coins in older holders.

So you either sign up for a membership to be able to submit coins or you find a dealer who is a member. The closest dealers around my area on their website search are both around 80 miles away.

I thought a CAC bean meant that CAC agreed with the exact grade. Neither too low or too high.
