Looks like I can see rolling lines on the affected area and the 'Y' in Liberty looks thinner. Not sure on this one. (The jury is still out) Make me wonder if it wasn't struck through a bit of thin cladding, that fell off after the strike. (I don't recall this happening before?) I'd keep it safe for now.

You can't soak off, what is part of the coin. Note the rolling lines on that area? That is the original surface. As I mentioned I feel something was on the planchet, when the coin was struck. And now it is no longer there. Thus the rolling lines on that area.

Thanks for that info. From the images provided, they look straight.

Sorry Coop and Rothery I was out of pocket yesterday. I did soak the coin in acetone and nothing changed. New image uploaded.

It maybe a thin piece of cladding peeled from the coin. Is the color red? It doesn't look like that in the image.

Looks like something dripped and splattered in that area

Took two other pics (Obverse & Reverse) I think you can see the bottom of the hilt just above the Q.

Could this be a strike through vs. a die clash? That might also explain the how/why the silver cladding was damaged.
