Sorry, this is not a Henning, The biggest give-a-way is the lack of the loop on the leg of the 'R' on the reverse of pluRibus. But on the '47, it seems that the R was not damaged on the die.

Edit: I did find a web site explaining these nickels.
I'm now not sure if it is or is not a Henning.
but here is a reference to start your start on determining if it is or not.

Your coin display a nice lamination error on the Obverse.

to the CCF!
The crack on the obverse is called a lamination error, as impurities in the planchet caused the thin surface to delaminate, or peel apart from the coin. Very common and not worth a premium unless it is extreme.

I am not the person to say with 100% certainty that this is a henning nickel. I would say that there is a decent chance because I don't see anything that would contradict this being a henning.

Lately I have been watching tons of you tube videos of people searching box after box of pennies and nickels looking for wheat cents and pre-1960 nickels. I did my research on coin acronyms (DDO, LMC, PMD, etc.) and what to look for and even bought a Red Book which arrived yesterday.

You've got the bug! Enjoy the hobby, there is plenty to learn.

A fair percentage of Henning nickels did not have the looped R. From what I've heard, the non-loop reverses have a die chip above the dome. I can't really tell if this one does. The experts may ask for closeups of that area.

I see no specific markers for a Henning nickel here.

The strike is showing die wear. I don't recall the "Henning" nickels showing the heavy die flow lines on them.

Also the strikes are weaker on the "Henning" nickels.

All I ever see posted are the easy to spot 1944's with the looped R. Someone show me an up close photo and weight of a 1947 without the looped R.

You could find someone's in the wild. I will not look for, are fake coins and if you want to sell you could have someone at your door, and you will be full responsible for your own action. I know to detect those coins but I will not be involved here in this community. Good Luck.

In Canada this is true Silviosi, but here in the US it is legal to own/sell a counterfeit coin. Trying to spend a counterfeit like it is real is illegal though.

So there are even people down here who collect counterfeits.

Sorry I've never heard of a henning nickel and I've been cherry picking and collecting error coins for more than 3 decades. I do however I know a little about the silver Kennedy half dollar that you said was your mom's-make sure none are silver 1776-1976. That coin has value(don't know if you knew)

Is it just me or is the lettering close to the rim most of the time on the henning nickles?
