Not even close !
This subject has been beaten
more often than a Persian Rug .
Unless you have connections to
Either the Lester Merkins or Eva Adams
Estate or bought it out of a high powered auction
You are NEVER connecting on a 1964 SMS coin .
There are none in the wild or available any other way .
This subject of 1964 SMS coins is a candidate for banning
on the Forum . Right up there with the 1936 Canadian Dot
Cent and Dime .

Type 'A' was the common design for the 1932-1964 (RDV-001)cents. On the proof 1936 it was also a Type 'A' but the 1937(RDV-002) Was the Start of the Type 'B' design for the Proof quarters. (There were some Type B reused proof dies on the 1956-1964 quarters) Type 'C'(RDC-003) was seen on the 1964-D Business strikes and on the 1965, 1967. The breakdown of years are on the link above from Variety Vista.

Pacificoin, that is an idea. But we will have to answer this forever. People think the imposable is posable.

The original ones are probably all still safe in their holders. They were given to mint employees so they are probably going to stay in sets. Not released to the public. The dies were probably used to strike normal business strike coins, but without the SMS process. (making them just normal business strike coins)

(1)Coop so my coin has type A tail feathers yes?

(1) Yes, Normal tail feathers.
(2) Below.
No, yours is not a SMS. Having the weak tail feathers makes it a common one. Note the image above for the reverses of each coin. The type 'A' is the most common on normal coins. The Type 'B' are what the normal Proof coins would have. The 1964-D were normal Type 'A', but few had the Type 'C' reverse. Some of the 1956-1964 Business strike quarters had the type 'B' (re-used proof reverse) do have a premium.

I think y'all need to get yourselves together because clear the guy tells me I have the SMS coin. Then he reneged. Then he post pics of bad uneven self imposed graphics pointing out the differences in the coins. There aren't any differences. What I wanna know is why The guy reneged?

Suggest submitting the coin to a reputable third party grading service. Too, you might want to contact a premier numismatic publication and/or auction service concerning your coin. Please let us know the results. Thanks.

As stated in a lot of responses, you will never find one in circulation. All that was made are accounted for.

Note the strike definition on the busts. The BS examples are only struck once. The proof and the SMS were struck twice. Thus the definition of strike is strong, with out the glowing fields of a proof quarter.

The strike is different. No die issues on these as they are part of the first 50+ that were struck with those dies.
