It sure looks like the obverse die had Feeder Finger scrapes that were transferred to the coin during the strike. These are really interesting to me. Nice coin, thanks for posting it! I recently found a Roosevelt dime with the same scraped look to the reverse.

Learned something new today. I didn't think that Feeder Finger Damage got below the die surface. But in Dr. Coop's image library was a nickel that clearly shows lines inside of Jefferson's face, which is deeper on the die.

I read that same post from COOP, pretty awesome stuff regarding Feeder Fingers.

Quote: which is deeper on the die Deep on the coin, but high on the die, making it an easier place to damage, like the fields.

Fair enough. That patch inside the ear is still within the highest point of the bust. But you're right, the recessed area might still be closer to the level of the field than my brain wants to perceive.

Quote: which is deeper on the die No they're not. This area is the level of the fields of the coin. Makecents, didn't see your reply.

Quote: I didn't think that Feeder Finger Damage got below the die surface. that area where the FFD appears is the highest point of the dies and get scraped by the feeder fingers if they get tagged by a descending die and getting damaged.
