After two months of looking and asking I believe you hit the nail on the head, (as us old timers say)!

Wixler indicated that the reverse may have a filling of the upper part off the E in E PLU. THE PHOTO IS NOT CLEAR ENOUGH BUT THE UPPER PART OF THE E IS FILLED.
I thank you my friend.
Next question..should I have it graded?
I have no idea of value and don't know if it would be worth it.

It's had the daylights beat out of it but that is RPM-002, as stated above.

Looks like PCGS might be a good investment.
I have no idea as to what it would grade out to but might speculate.
Does it appear to be close to VF from the photos?

Not a bad find from an old friends small collection.

VF seems right, but
you could take better pics of whole coin,
crop out all of the background,
and post it in the grading forum
for more eyes to see, and maybe
decide if it is worth a submission.

Welcome and that is a nice variety.

The dark area around the date might put this coin into the "Details" category. My experience "Details" coins drop the value comparable to at least one full point.

Links are respectively Copper Coins, PCGS for 1909-S/S 1c FS-1502, and ebay current and sold listings (respectively). You can see that two sold recently on ebay in ANACS holders, VF grade, for about $150 with lots of bids. So it seems to be a reasonably popular coin.

to CCF.
That is a very nice RPM-002 (thanks for the better images of it. They really helped here. the screen shots add too much pixelations and artifacts to be able to correctly identify something on a coin.

Indeed better images always help with identifying coin errors/varieties. Very Nice RPM there.

I think it would straight-grade, but agree the dark area would detract from its value.

I don't think it's worth a slab-n-grade. It's not like this is a $500 coin.

Nice semi key-date coin & FS 1502. Agree w/ taking better pics & putting them in the grading forum. IMO.... this one is borderline slab worthy.

Must agree, probably not worth grading fees.
