Quote:Let's see. Cabinet Maker feedback score of 4 . All magically are1889 CC Morgan's . Don't just walk away , rocket away !! Definitely counterfeit. A little visit from the Secret Service might be a suggestion. To add .. ebay no longer cares ! Yeah ebay just totals its Losses from fugazzis, at least those reported, and then makes it back up thru service prices increases which both we and the seller end up paying. Sort of like who ends up paying for the CC scams and you can be sure it ain't Mastercard or Visa. They never lose. But this coin ? You almost have to admire the fugazzi toning on it. It looks like it was printed out on a printer using photo grade glossy paper. Anyone who would buy such a coin, and just by looking at it, should probably find a new Hobby. I recently sent back a couple CC Morgans because the seller used lighting and probably Photoshop to hide the obviously bad cleaning job. Another went Lost in Space thru the USPS and after a month I still wasn't paid back so I clobbered him on a rating and what do you know ? few days later the money was back in my account. Another bad coin I sent back and I'm about to lose my patience on it. Then again, thru ebay, I got a terrific deal on the last nickle coin struck by the Nazi Govt. in 1938. The mintage was low for the German Reich-J. 324-coin-50 Reichspfennig 1938 J but even more so few were even released to the public because Germany produced no nickle and it was a crucial war metal. The Nazi's also demanded the public return what was already in circulation so important was needed the nickle in them. The Nazi's were dependent on the Soviet Union for almost all their nickle imports and in June 1941 when they attacked Stalin that dried up. To find a "J", struck in Hamburg, for the price I ended up paying was spectacular and even tho I dont yet have it I trust I'll get it. These nickle coins are going for upwards of $100 and I can't wait to display this important numismatic piece of history. I owe ebay for getting it but overall I'm kind of wary of ebay to tell you the truth. But one can get lucky on it too. https://www.silveragecoins.com/en/details

PCGS nuked the cert after a similar example with the same cert number was sold on HiBid last year. The same coin sold in March from a different seller name and now today. The BayBots liked it when I reported it as fake, so there you have it. Previous images:

@RPT, if you look at the slab, notice the PCGS slab paper font & the barcode looks blotchy, not what you'd expect from PCGS.

This 1889-CC isn't as bad a counterfeit as some of the earlier products from across the big pond. The dies are sloppy and the finish is the usual junk, but they have improved their coining presses. This fake is fairly well struck.

Same seller now has a 1916-D Mercury dime for sale. This coin certification number does come up in a search. Real? Actually, it does come up and shows a past auction listing: The label barcode scans to an 1893-S Morgan...

I didn't know there was an app that could read those barcodes. So it's a legitimate barcode for an 1893-s Morgan.

Has someone notified ebay of the fraud? Seems like the buyer would want to file a police report here and get a full refund.

Yes, and there are several on-line scanners available.

Yeah and sadly the 3 people that were bidding it out for this fake are very real with feedback ranging from 1200 to 6500. Just hope they realize it and force a return.
