Quote: Here are a couple pics of the working stage. Any comments welcome. Very nice! Quote: Not sure if it really a good idea .. Proof only halves. I think it is a great idea, especially if it is something that makes you happy. I think it looks good. I really like how you are including the commemorative half dollars with the set. I am considering building a proof-only Presidential dollar album, given how difficult it is for me to find decent circulation pieces.

I started a circulated set of JFK about 6 months ago; need 64-D, 66,69,70, 1987 to complete from rolls. Also picking up uncirc sets to break out in the future and make a BU (from mint sets - a stronger stike), Proof, and NIFCs; plan to put in a INtercept Sheild album when I start breaking them out. For now I am leaving them in 2x2s and orig packaging. Buy the proofs from where ever I find them reasonable; Also stashing away all the 1987-S proofs I can cabbage onto at a decent price.

I always did save both the Kennedy halves and Eisenhower dollars, just because. Kids would get them from Grandma, I'd give them a buck or two and put them away. I started to put a set of business strikes together at the beginning of this year. My work partner and I go to our respective banks on paydays, he every Friday (he works two jobs) and me every other Friday. He asks at his, and at mine they know to keep an eye for me. I've scored a few times with somebody turning a bunch in for cash. Got quite a few 40%, a couple 64's, and one Franklin. I did buy my 1964 D, 70 D (from a mint set I picked up for $6.00), and some of the later year issues. All the rest were gathered from circulation.

I "do" like the way you put yours together Goldrush ! ..... I briefly considered doing it that way too actually.....but went the other route. I thought I might get an "extra page" and put some commem's in mine like you did. And that is a NICE set too Coin ! ..... I like that style of doing it in the airtights too....(Cointains ?)

COINAHOLIC: What's the cost of an air-tite album to house a complete Kennedy set? I think through 2010 the Dansco has 154 coins. That looks great.

Thanks all, Quote: I would like to know more about your album, looks superior to Dansco et al. Can you tell the name and where to find them? Thanksz, bob
The album runs about $24.00 but that does not include the air-tite capsules. Can be found here; http://www.air-tites.com/air-tite_coin_albums.htm Quote: What's the cost of an air-tite album to house a complete Kennedy set? I think through 2010 the Dansco has 154 coins. That looks great. Thanks, for a full set you would need more than just one. For the T size holder the album has 54 openings. Quote: I like that style of doing it in the airtights too....(Cointains ?) No they are air-tites, I have quarters in cointains, and do not care for them, they are too flimsy!

So you need 3 albums for 154 coins. Like $72 plus the cost of the air-tites. How thick are the albums?

Quote: For some reason, the proof bug has not caught on with me yet. Am I sick or something?
None of my Dansco's have the proof option, business only. But, that's not the reason I have shyed away from them, I intentionally bought them without the proof slots. Maybe some kind of "working man's coin" syndrome?
Is there something wrong with me? Or does it just finally hit you like a ton of bricks i am the same way. the dansco albums I buy are only the p/d ones. I like collecting the proofs and what not, but I just leave them encased as they come. I have no intention in cracking them open. but one thing I will say is that when I see other peoples pictures with all- p,d, s, and silver together, it does indeed look very nice.

Jbuck and Eaglefoot .. thanks for the thumbs up .. I was sure how this looks to others, with just proofs and mixed with commemorative proofs. I think I will really like it when I get more of the slots filled in. And maybe come up with a good idea on how to label them. Coinaholic, nice looking airtight album. I have thought about maybe doing one of those someday. I was checking into how silver proof quarters, 1999 and up, would look in one. As for you guys not really getting bitten by the proof bug. I was the same way. I was just doing proofs in my Lincoln set, but then State Quarters came along. I started breaking open sets for those, then I had to do something with all the others. Now I am really liking how some of them look. I think my favorite proofs and the 2004 and 2005 Jefferson nickels .. they really are a sharp looking coin in proofs.

I've been working on this, as well, and wanted to share my experiences since I hadn't seen many other topics about assembling a Kennedy Dansco. I've been working on mine for about nine months. My album includes Proofs/BU only and is currently at: 1960s: 8 of 13 filled 1970s: 26 of 29 filled 1980s: 13 of 30 filled 1990s: 21 of 38 filled 2000s: 16 of 44 filled (includes 2010 My experience with the proof album has been that it requires some deep pockets because of those silver varieties. You are adding ~ 19 additional silver proofs, and some of the latter year ones sell for $15-20 at shows or ebay. The other issue is finding late year BU coins. Roll searching from banks didn't result in many hits. Mint sets have the right coins, but again these are dirt cheap in the 1970s but start to get more expensive in recent years. I've stumbled upon some good deals on ebay but it can be time consuming. The album is extremely heavy, despite being only about half done. I think it is a great presentation piece, but I worry about the page bindings holding up over the long haul with each page supporting so much weight. I try to be careful lifting and supporting pages when browsing the album or adding coins. The first page is the best page - the 1960s Kennedy halves in BU/proof are something to behold and I'm quite excited to have a number of these slots filled. Oh, my other advice would be to decide up front how important cameo is. This is a bit of an issue with all years; granted, in later years, cameo proofs are much more plentiful, but there are varying degrees, and if you opt for the proof album, you may find yourself cost-cutting as best you can, which means jumping on low priced Kennedy proofs which are being sold cheap because of weak cameo. I would advise collectors to browse listings or shows for examples of strong and weak cameo Kennedy proofs to determine what's appropriate for your collection, before you start buying and inserting coins. As for actual assembly, while I did botch a couple of coins, I had good luck inserting proofs with cotton gloves, and depressing them on the frosted obverse head, which seems fairly resistant vs. the fields. The design of the Kennedy half definitely makes it an easier coin to "push" into its slot in an album when you are dealing with proofs.

I have been assembling a set of Kennedy proofs since I began collecting in 2007 as well as building an uncirculated set. In addition, I've been working on a set of AC and circulated Kennedy halves for insertion into a Whitman album. I haven't started that project as of yet and I probably have nearly a complete set out of my circulation finds.

There are some nice looking sets posted here. I have been building a set from circulation and also from one's I have bought from members here. Bought the 70 mint set to get that one. I store mine in 2X2's for now and I do have some of the proofs. I enjoy roll searching for the ones I still need.
