Thanks to all who have replied or commented about this dime. I would appreciate advice from anyone regarding the best process for getting it attributed. Would that step be to contact CONECA? I have an email in to John Wexler asking for his opinion and offering to send the dime for closer inspection. Thoughts or comments? Thanks again.

JW advises that he has two obverse doubled dies listed for the '45-P Mercury. I'll be submitting the coin to him for review and will let you know the results. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Woo hoo!! It's official, I just received an email from Mr. Wexler today advising that this is a new genuine doubled die obverse variety for the 1945-P Mercury. It will be officially listed as 1945 10c WDDO-003. I would appreciate any information or opinions as to value on something like this and how best to proceed at this point. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Help!!

Dcreek1968,
Don't know value! But I would like to put this up in my gallery section of my web site if this is OK with you? But congratulation again, I would at least call and send it in to PCGS or NGC for them to check if they will certify (slab) this new discovery...

Congratulations on a discovery find The second group of pictures made all the difference and showed it definitively.

Congrats on the nice find and listing! Neither NGC or PCGS will slab it as a DDO at this point but ANACS will though. Send it to Wiles and have it listed by CONECA. Did you want to sell it or keep it? I have no idea what it is worth. The Mercury dimes that are "doubled" on ebay are largely garbage and the sellers are bemused. Teletrade examples show slabbed BU DDOs going from $50-200 but many have CPG (FS) numbers. I get the impression the pool of Mercury dime variety specialists, dealers and collectors is small compared to other series. Good luck.

Great news! We are now officially in the CONECA files as well as the Wexler Doubled Die files. Previously we noted that the Wexler file listing is 1945-10c-WDDO-003. Mr. Wiles has confirmed that the listing for this "discovery" piece will be: DDO-002, 2-O-V-CCW, stage B, MDS. I'm not completely sure what all of that means, but I think it confirms this as an obverse Class V doubled die with counterclockwise doubling. I think MDS is "mid-die state", don't know aobut the #2 and the stage B. I haven't researched that aspect yet. Anyone know what that is? It's good to be back on the forum, been traveling. We appreciate all of the advice and comments from Coin Community forum members. Attribution by either ANACS as a discovery piece or NGC perhaps is probably the next step. Thanks again. As far as I know, the population is still "1"....
