Darn, you guys are stern task masters. Haven't you ever heard that ignorance is bliss? OK, I'll try to keep up. LOL

Just don't make me break out the riding crops and leather, and everything will go fine for you.

Just got and strange PM. Is someone gunning for the Zeeman? My last sign off Outta Here (minus the expletives) is an old Aeronautical term meaning Byee, Ta Ta, RTB, Next Time Dude, QSY, Adiós, or just Goodbye. Don't take it out of context or try to use it to damage another's rep. Sorry Zeewool if someone is trying to get to you. I completely enjoy your spirited debate. Nothing gets me back in my books like debate; keeps my mind alert. I just wish it would improve my retention. Anyway, watch your "6" zeeman, I'm otta here.

Oh my, the email was from me buddy. Nobody is trying to get me (as far as I know or care). I just wanted to be sure that I did not offend you in any way. My sense of humor is often invisible to some serious folks, and it acts against me.

Yeah Gene, I emailed Mike about that, and he explained it as meaning something else. I was pretty worried, but he will be hanging out here. I was just lost with the lingo, and he didn't bother to see who was emailing him.

Let's revisit pitting on silver dollars. Corrosion: pitting or green oxidation that appears on the surfaces of coins. Light corrosion is called "porosity," moderate corrosion is called "granularity," and heavy corrosion is called "pitting." Likely cause but not definitive cause is rust. I have never quite come to grips with different "stages" of die pitting. Can someone explain how this can occur?

Quote: Can someone explain how this can occur? Varied durations and degrees of exposure to whatever the provocative agent was. Doesn't seem difficult in my opinion, but my strong point is leaping to conclusive positions on the barest of evidence.

My dear old Grandpa said that if you think, think and think some more, then you've probably over thunk it!! Them old mint workers are probably looking down at us and really getting a good chuckle out of our modern day logic being applied to coins that were minted in their day, because the only thing that was important to them was making quota! Back then it was just a coin and a job, they never dreamed that people would someday have enough idle time to view those same coins with a loupe or dinolite.

How true, how true...... I am so 'very' glad to see you are still around Smitty. I have been thinking and wondering about you...! I don't know how I missed your post until now.
